Russia has completed the assembly of a prototype of the fifth-generation Su-75 Checkmate fighter jet. According to representatives of Sukhoi, the aircraft is currently in the final stages of preparation for its maiden flight, scheduled for the first quarter of 2026.
The Checkmate project was first introduced to the public in the summer of 2021 at the MAKS air show. At the time, the demonstrator attracted significant attention from experts and observers due to its blend of advanced technologies and its stated affordability for international customers.
The Su-75 is being developed as a lightweight tactical fighter with stealth capabilities. Engineers have focused on minimizing radar visibility, enhancing maneuverability, and integrating advanced electronic systems. The designers intend for the aircraft to fill a market niche between heavy fighters and lighter, previous-generation jets.
Visually, the Checkmate features a distinct fuselage and air intake design, which provides it with low radar visibility. Internal weapon bays allow the aircraft to maintain its aerodynamics and stealth even during combat missions.
Sukhoi notes that the project is aimed not only at the domestic market but also at exports. Potential buyers from various countries have already expressed interest, and the jet is positioned as a competitor to Western models in its class.
Key features of the Su-75 include the ability to integrate a wide range of weaponry, advanced avionics, and next-generation engines. The fighter is expected to be capable of carrying out various missions, including achieving air superiority and striking ground targets.
It is planned that after completing flight tests and final adjustments, serial deliveries will begin in the coming years. Experts believe that the successful entry of Checkmate into the market could significantly alter the balance of power in the fifth-generation light fighter segment.
