At the Santa Lucía University Hospital in Cartagena, the departments most severely affected by the fire have resumed operations just two days after the incident. The medical facility is gradually returning to its usual pace: patients who were urgently evacuated to other buildings and to Santa María del Rosell hospital are now being transferred back. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident, although the fire did impact the terrace and several floors of the hospital’s fifth building.
The fire broke out on Wednesday, and its cause remains unknown. Fire investigation specialists from the Murcia police are working at the scene. They are thoroughly inspecting the damaged areas to determine what sparked the blaze. No official versions or conclusions have been announced so far.
In the first hours after the incident, hospital management decided to temporarily relocate patients from the danger zone. This helped avoid any risk to people’s health and safety. The phased return of patients to the restored wards began the very next day.
Restoration work in the affected areas proceeded without delay. Medical and technical staff quickly prepared the departments to receive patients, minimizing the incident’s impact on the entire complex’s operations. All main services in the fifth building are currently operating as normal.
The fire was a serious challenge for the Santa Lucía team, but coordinated efforts by staff quickly brought the situation under control. City and regional authorities are closely monitoring the investigation to prevent similar incidents in the future.
