Fortune has once again smiled on a participant in Spain’s most popular lottery, La Primitiva. This time, luck found its way to the small municipality of Martorell in the province of Barcelona, home to just about 28,000 people. One local resident is now richer by an impressive €218,570.
The winning ticket was registered at lottery administration number 12.155, located at Pasaje Josep Ros, 2. This modest kiosk became the place where someone’s dream came true. The lucky combination drawn on November 6 was 45, 16, 37, 46, 11, and 18. The additional number (Complementario) was 22, and Reintegro — 09.
Interestingly, La Primitiva is one of the oldest lotteries in the world. Its history dates back to the 18th century, during the reign of Carlos III. The first draw was held on December 10, 1763, at the initiative of the Marquis de Esquilache, the finance minister, who aimed to increase the treasury’s funds without imposing new taxes. After a long hiatus, the lottery was revived in its modern form in 1985 and has remained popular ever since.
Participation rules are quite simple. Players need to select six numbers from 1 to 49. The draws are held three times a week—on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays—when six main balls and one additional ball, the Complementario, are drawn. Each ticket is also automatically assigned a Reintegro number from 0 to 9. To win the jackpot in the special category, you must guess all six numbers plus the Reintegro.
For those looking to try their luck in a big way, there’s an additional “El Joker” option. For just one euro, a ticket is assigned a random seven-digit number. If it matches the winning “Joker” combination exactly, the ticket holder wins a prize of one million euros.
