Search efforts continue in the Urdiceto area, located in the Valle de Bielsa in Huesca province, for a man trapped by an avalanche. The incident occurred on Wednesday when two hikers set out into the mountains wearing snowshoes. One was caught under the snow, while the other managed to reach the nearest mountain shelter and call for help.
Rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the scene after the alarm was raised. A response team specializing in mountain operations was mobilized from the nearest shelter. Members of the Guardia Civil de Montaña, who have extensive experience working in challenging weather conditions, joined the search.
The search efforts are hindered by adverse weather and difficult terrain. Snow continues to fall and temperatures remain low, complicating rescue operations. Despite these challenges, the search has not stopped for a minute. Rescuers are using specialized equipment to locate people beneath the snow and are carefully inspecting the avalanche site.
The missing hiker was accompanied by a friend, who quickly descended to the shelter and reported the incident. Thanks to this swift response, rescue teams were able to begin searching without delay. However, the exact location of the man trapped by the avalanche has yet to be determined.
Regional authorities urge everyone planning mountain hikes to exercise utmost caution and closely monitor weather forecasts. Avalanche risk in the Pyrenees is especially high during winter, and even experienced hikers may find themselves in dangerous situations.
