In the small town of Moguer, located in the province of Huelva, a tragedy has shaken the local community. On Monday night, Civil Guard officers arrested a 56-year-old man suspected of murdering his former partner. The woman, who was 47 years old and worked at a local farm, did not return to her job after a break. Concerned colleagues went searching for her and found her lifeless, with clear signs of violence.
According to investigators, the victim and the suspect had previously been in a relationship, but the woman was not registered in the domestic violence victims’ protection system. It is known that on the eve of the tragedy, she had told her ex-partner she planned to marry another man. Investigators believe this news may have triggered the crime.
The suspect, originally from Burkina Faso, was detained within hours after the body was discovered. The victim’s daughter confirmed that her mother had recently informed the suspect about her plans to remarry. The man is currently in custody and has already been handed over to the court.
Public reaction and statistics
The incident sparked widespread public discussion and once again highlighted the issue of domestic violence. This year alone, 33 similar cases have been recorded in Spain, where women were killed by current or former partners. Since 2003, when official records began, more than 1,300 women have fallen victim.
