Every Tuesday and Friday, millions of Spaniards follow the Euromillones draw with bated breath, hoping to hit the jackpot. However, in the most recent draw held on November 14, no one in Europe managed to guess the winning combination. Nevertheless, for one participant from Spain, this evening turned out to be truly triumphant. Thanks to the additional “El Millón” draw, a resident of the Palencia municipality of Villada instantly became a millionaire, winning one million euros.
The lucky winner, whose ticket contained the unique code VNG89075, was the only person in the country to claim the prize. This code is automatically assigned to each ticket, making participation a pure game of chance, completely independent of the selected numbers. As a result, even when the main jackpot goes unclaimed, Spain is guaranteed to have a new millionaire every draw.
The windfall came to Villada, a small town with a rich history. Once a thriving trading hub well-known for its flour mills, foundries, and textile industry, today its former glory is recalled by ancient churches—like the parish church of Santa María de la Asunción and the centuries-old San Fructuoso—which remain an important part of the region’s cultural heritage.
With the main prize still unclaimed, the Euromillones jackpot continues to grow. For the next draw, set for Tuesday, November 18, it is expected to exceed an impressive 135 million euros—stirring up excitement across Europe.
The Euromillones lottery was launched in February 2004 as a joint project by the lottery operators of Spain, France, and the United Kingdom. Over time, six more countries joined, making it one of the largest lotteries in the world. The rules are simple: select 5 numbers out of 50 and 2 ‘stars’ out of 12. There are a total of 13 prize tiers, giving players a chance to win even with only some of the numbers matched.
