Scandal Erupts in Aragon Over Feijoo’s Visit and the Parador Mystery

What's behind the PP leader's sharp rhetoric and why Teruel is suddenly in the spotlight — after the rally in Calatayud, everything took a dramatic turn

Tensions are rising in Aragon following statements from Feijoo. Questions about the party at Parador and accusations against opponents are sparking fierce debate. Crucial campaign days lie ahead.

Events in Aragon have taken on particular urgency in recent days: the political struggle is reaching a new level, and its consequences could impact not only the region but the entire country. At the center of attention is the visit of Alberto Núñez Feijóo, head of the Partido Popular, who has decided to dedicate the entire upcoming week to campaigning in this region. His arrival and remarks have already sparked a wave of debate and controversy, while a mysterious story about a party at the Parador in Teruel has become the source of new accusations and suspicions.

Feijóo makes no secret of his intention to get to the bottom of this controversial event, which has drawn special attention in Madrid. He has openly stated that he plans to ask the residents of Teruel in person what exactly happened at the Parador and why this story continues to raise so many questions. This approach has immediately drawn focus to the region and heightened tensions among political forces.

Political tension

The Partido Popular leader is using the situation to criticize his opponents, accusing the socialists of attempting to split the electorate and boost Vox’s influence in order to make the future president of Aragon dependent on other parties. According to him, the current campaign is aimed at artificially inflating support for Vox, which Feijóo believes will lead to instability and ongoing conflict in the region.

During his speech in Calatayud, he emphasized that Aragón needs not disputes, but experience and determination. Feijóo urged people not to consider any vote as a foregone conclusion and not to allow themselves to be manipulated. His rhetoric became particularly tough when the topic of “lies in elections” came up—he accused his opponents of constant deceit, which, in his view, covers up abuses in financing, pensions, and even tragic events.

Accusations and emotions

In response to the visit of Pedro Sánchez and Pilar Alegría to Teruel, Partido Popular representative Jorge Azcón called their actions “utter audacity.” He reproached the socialists for ignoring depopulation issues, failing to support local businesses, and not clarifying the situation with Parador. According to him, even their supporters should be ashamed of what is happening.

Feijóo, in turn, reminded everyone of the importance of each vote, citing the municipality of San Mateo de Gállego as an example, where Partido Popular failed to win by a single vote. He also highlighted his party’s success in attracting investment and promised that Aragón would become the first region with full employment. He placed special emphasis on the water issue, stating that he would never support a project to divert the Ebro River, since water is “gold” for local farmers and ranchers.

Water and promises

The issue of water has become one of the central themes in Feijóo’s speeches. He emphasized that any attempts to change the allocation of water resources will be met with strong resistance. According to him, water is not just a resource but the foundation of life for the entire region, and the people of Aragón must vote to preserve it.

During the campaign, Feijóo also recalled the attracted investments and the prospects for economic growth. He promised that the region could achieve full employment if it followed the Partido Popular’s course. However, his statements received mixed reactions: some voters supported his tough rhetoric, while others expressed doubts about the realism of such promises.

Context and consequences

The scandal surrounding the party at the Parador and the sharp statements from party leaders have triggered fresh debates about the future of Aragón. Political competition between the main forces is intensifying in the region, and questions of transparency and honesty are becoming increasingly relevant. In the coming days, the fierce struggle for votes is expected to continue, and each new statement could shift the balance of power.

In recent years, Aragon has repeatedly become the scene of intense political conflicts related to resource allocation, business support, and demographic challenges. Such scandals have already influenced election outcomes and coalition formation. For instance, in 2024 a similar situation with accusations against opponents led to unexpected results in the municipal elections. Then, as now, issues of trust and transparency were crucial, as was the ability of politicians to use hot-button topics to mobilize their supporters.
