Three Spanish Cities Compete for the Title of Brightest at Christmas

Which city will receive the golden lights of Ferrero Rocher? The intrigue has reached its peak

Spain’s most famous Christmas competition is nearing its finale. Three cities are vying for the top prize, with thousands of votes set to determine the winner. Who will claim the renowned golden illumination?

Spain’s most popular Christmas competition has entered its decisive stage, sparking unprecedented interest in the voting, which has already broken all previous records for participation this year. The twelfth edition of the ‘Juntos Brillamos Más’ contest, organized by the renowned brand Ferrero Rocher, is fast approaching its spectacular finale. Only three towns remain in this intense competition, each managing to mobilize thousands of local residents and fans from across the country.

Although many worthy contenders were eliminated in the early rounds, the current standings show that every vote can be decisive and dramatically change the outcome of this prestigious contest. The suspense continues right up to the last moment, as the entire country eagerly watches to see who will earn the honor of lighting up in golden hues this Christmas.

This year’s finalists

After a tough selection from seventeen original candidates, three unique towns have made it to the finals: Cudillero from Asturias, Fuente del Maestre from Extremadura, and Tejeda from Gran Canaria. Each presents its own distinctive case for victory. Cudillero, scenically spread out like a natural amphitheater, made this very feature the center of its campaign. The town’s mayor, Carlos Valle, highlighted that all of Asturias has come together to support their candidate, who dreams of turning the town into one of Spain’s most iconic Christmas destinations.

For its part, Fuente del Maestre is betting on its rich historical heritage and the gastronomic treasures of its region. This small town in Extremadura—a province often overshadowed by more popular tourist destinations—wants to showcase the value of its traditional architecture and products such as excellent wine and olive oil. Reaching the finals is a testament to the strength of a project that promotes local culture as the foundation of its identity.

Tejeda’s participation has become a truly historic event for the competition. For the first time ever, a municipality from the Canary Islands is competing for the title. Its candidacy is backed by breathtaking landscapes set against the Roque Nublo rock. The mayor called this the perfect moment to finally bring the famous golden lights to the islands.

The decisive voting stage

While local communities campaign actively for their favorites, voting remains open to the public until December 7. Anyone can support their chosen candidate on the official Ferrero Rocher website by filling out a simple form. The very next day, December 8, the two super finalists will be announced and will continue competing in this record-breaking season for participation.

The name of the highly anticipated winner will be revealed to all of Spain on December 15. The highlight will be a festive lighting ceremony taking place on December 17. The magical evening will be hosted by renowned TV presenter Jesús Vázquez, who will bring a vibrant conclusion to one of the most eagerly awaited events of the Christmas season.
