A serious accident in the municipality of Benassal, located in the province of Castellón, has claimed the lives of two people. Late in the evening, on a stretch of the CV-166 road, a passenger car suddenly lost control and plunged into a deep ravine where a river once flowed, but whose bed is now completely dry.
There were five men in the car. After the fall, the vehicle was severely damaged, and all the passengers were trapped inside. Firefighters quickly arrived at the scene and had to use special equipment to free the victims from the mangled cabin.
Two of the men died at the scene from their injuries. The other three were extracted alive, given first aid, and then taken to the nearest hospitals for further treatment. Their condition is described as moderate, but doctors are not ruling out possible complications.
The reasons why the vehicle left the road are still unclear. Authorities are considering several possible explanations, including technical failure, speeding, or adverse weather conditions. Guardia Civil officers are conducting the necessary investigation and processing all documentation related to the tragedy.
The stretch of road where the accident occurred has been temporarily closed to traffic. Local authorities are urging drivers to be especially cautious on the region’s winding and poorly lit roads, particularly at night.
