Inditex strengthens leadership with new profit and competitor data

Inditex outpaces LVMH and Hermès in profits — how the balance of power is shifting

Inditex once again leads global fashion companies in economic profit, outpacing major French and US rivals. Which brands drive the group’s success and how is Spain’s fashion market evolving? A detailed analysis.

In 2024, Spanish giant Inditex once again ranked first among global fashion industry companies by economic profit, surpassing competitors such as LVMH, Hermès, and TJX. After deducting capital expenditures, the group’s profit reached $5.544 billion, equivalent to approximately €4.774 billion. This allowed Inditex to reclaim the leadership it had been losing since 2017 and strengthen its position amid growing competition from French and American corporations.

Inditex includes several well-known brands, with Zara playing a key role. Alongside Zara, Bershka and other group labels also make significant contributions to the company’s overall sales network. According to RUSSPAIN, Inditex’s total number of retail outlets worldwide has reached 5,563, with Zara accounting for 1,759 stores and Bershka for 854. This scale allows Inditex not only to maintain its leadership in the fast fashion segment but also to actively compete with international players.

Global competitors

On the world market, Inditex faces tough competition from H&M and Fast Retailing, the latter best known for its Uniqlo brand. In the premium segment, French groups LVMH and Kering dominate, with Louis Vuitton and Gucci as their flagship brands. Hermès, in contrast, follows a single-brand strategy, yet remains one of the most profitable players in the luxury industry.

In Spain, alongside Inditex, Mango and Tendam have a strong presence in the market. Mango operates 2,844 stores worldwide, while Tendam, which includes brands such as Pedro del Hierro and Cortefiel, has 1,801 retail outlets. These companies make up the top three in terms of revenue in the Spanish fashion sector, illustrating the resilience of national brands amid market globalization.

Sales dynamics and online growth

Spain’s domestic market is also showing significant growth. In November 2025, sales at retail stores specializing in personal goods (clothing, footwear, textiles) increased by 12.8% compared to the same period the previous year. This level had not been recorded since December 2023, indicating a recovery in demand and consumer activity.

Particular attention is drawn to the dynamics of online sales. In recent years, the volume of online purchases at Spanish fashion companies has risen from 101 million euros at the end of 2013 to 1.424 billion euros in the second quarter of 2025. Despite such impressive growth, domestic online sales in Spain remain stable, which may suggest market saturation or a shift in consumer habits.

Leaders and trends

An analysis by russpain.com indicates that Inditex’s success is largely driven by a flexible brand management model and a broad geographic presence. At the same time, competition from international corporations and the growth of the online segment demand constant strategy updates and investment in digital technologies. Spanish companies, despite pressure from global players, continue to hold a significant market share, relying on brand recognition and a well-developed store network.

Experts predict that in the coming years, national leaders will further strengthen their positions, with a possible redistribution between offline and online sales channels. Focus on quality, innovation, and adapting to new consumer trends is becoming a key factor in maintaining global competitiveness.

Inditex is the largest Spanish fashion company, founded in 1985. It includes well-known brands such as Zara, Bershka, Massimo Dutti, and Pull&Bear. The group is recognized for its fast-fashion model, which allows rapid response to changes in demand and trends. With an extensive store network and a strong push into online sales, Inditex leads not only in Spain but also globally, remaining one of the most influential players in the industry.
