Afternoon television in Spain has become a true battleground for viewers’ attention, and in this struggle, one of the media giants, Telecinco, is suffering a significant setback. The latest audience data reveal a worrying trend for the channel: not a single one of its daytime programs on Tuesday managed to surpass the 8% audience share mark. Competitors from Antena 3 and the state-owned La 1 are confidently taking the initiative.
Joaquín Prat’s new show, ‘El tiempo justo,’ had a modest debut, drawing just 593,000 viewers, which corresponds to a 7.9% share. However, the real disappointment comes from the performance of the popular host Jorge Javier Vázquez. His talk show ‘El diario de Jorge’ is experiencing a sharp decline in interest. The program attracted only 542,000 viewers (7.7%), losing more than 150,000 fans in a week and dropping 2.3 percentage points. This is a major blow to the channel’s daytime ambitions.
Against this backdrop of setbacks, competitors’ successes appear even more impressive. Antena 3 continues to lead the ratings thanks to its melodrama ‘Sueños de libertad,’ which consistently attracts over 1.13 million viewers (13.7%). State broadcaster La 1 also shows strength, successfully competing with its own series. ‘Valle Salvaje’ and ‘La Promesa,’ with shares of 12.3% and 12.5% respectively, not only outperform Telecinco’s offerings but also present a challenge to ‘Y ahora Sonsoles’ on Antena 3, which, despite remaining afloat with 10.5%, lags behind La 1’s dramatic stories.
The peak of Antena 3’s dominance comes in the evening slot, where the quiz show “Pasapalabra” hosted by Roberto Leal leaves no chance for competitors. The show is the undisputed leader, closing September with a phenomenal 20.7% share and an audience of nearly 1.85 million viewers. In comparison, Telecinco’s rival program “Agárrate al sillón” appears lackluster with just 7.1%. This weak start also negatively affects the evening news anchored by Carlos Franganillo, which has to settle for the same 7.1% and 801,000 viewers, while Antena 3’s news draws 2.15 million and La 1 nearly 1.4 million viewers.
