Tesla has announced the price of the updated version of its popular Model Y crossover, adapted for the Chinese market. The new modification, named Model Y L, is designed to seat six passengers thanks to the addition of a third row of seats.
The starting price for the car is 339,000 yuan, which is approximately 40,425 euros. Sales are expected to begin in September. The Model Y L is about 15 centimeters longer than the base model, offering a more spacious interior and increased comfort for family trips.
The vehicle is equipped with a battery that provides a range of up to 751 kilometers on a single charge. This is comparable to the five-seat high-performance version, which starts at 313,500 yuan (about 37,380 euros).
In recent months, Tesla has faced mounting competition from local Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers. Deliveries from the Shanghai factory have declined, and sales in July dropped by 12% compared to last year. The new Model Y L aims to strengthen the company’s position in the world’s largest electric vehicle market.
One of the reasons for the drop in demand has been delays in the development of advanced driver assistance systems, including the Full Self-Driving (FSD) feature. Although these technologies have been in testing since February, their rollout has been slow.
The launch of the Model Y L highlights Tesla’s drive to expand its lineup and offer more variety to Chinese consumers. Previously, the Model 3 sedan with extended range was introduced in China, capable of traveling up to 830 kilometers on a single charge.
