A 17-year-old and an 18-year-old have been arrested after a drive-by shooting in Boise left Destiny Gonzalez dead outside a short-term rental. Police say the younger teen fired the shots.
Boise police have arrested two teenagers in connection with the shooting death of 22-year-old Destiny Gonzalez outside a short-term rental on West Clement Road. Investigators say a 17-year-old fired the shots, while 18-year-old Ulisses Macareno drove the car during the attack. Both face first-degree murder charges. The 17-year-old is accused of pulling the trigger, and Macareno is charged as an accomplice.
The arrests happened four days after the shooting, which took place just before 6 a.m. while a party was underway at the rental. Police say a sedan drove past the house and multiple shots were fired at the residence. Gonzalez, who lived in Caldwell, was found on the front porch. First responders tried to save her, but she died at the scene. No one else was hurt.
Detectives requested rideshare drivers who may have picked up or dropped off people near the house between 2:30 and 6:00 a.m. on the day of the shooting to come forward with information.
Once police identified the suspects, they moved quickly. Macareno was arrested at a home in Meridian with help from local officers and booked into Ada County Jail. The 17-year-old, whose name has not been released, was arrested in Caldwell and taken to the Canyon County Juvenile Detention Center. Detectives obtained arrest warrants for both as part of the ongoing investigation.
Boise Police Chief Chris Dennison credited detectives and law enforcement agencies in Meridian, Caldwell, and Nampa for their cooperation. He also thanked community members who shared information that helped the case. Police believe Gonzalez was not the intended target; instead, the shooter appeared to be aiming at the party or certain people there.
This case follows other recent incidents involving youth violence, such as the reported earlier stabbing in Manresa, where a juvenile suspect was again implicated after release from detention. The Boise shooting highlights the ongoing challenge police face in preventing violence involving minors, especially when guns and group gatherings are involved.
