Dungeon Settlers links colony survival to dangerous dungeon runs. Every settler lost underground is gone for good, and its Early Access launch already offers a demanding strategic foundation.

A failed expedition in Dungeon Settlers can permanently remove someone the colony needs to grow. CanOpener's PC strategy game connects settlement management with tactical dungeon exploration. Every descent becomes a choice about risk. The result is a demanding hybrid that entered Early Access on 4 September 2026 for Windows and macOS. Its official launch price is $24.99, or around 25 euros in European listings. Game8 describes it as a colony sim and strategy game with dungeon crawler elements.

The two sides depend on each other. Colonists need food and housing while the settlement produces supplies and researches technologies. The player can then choose up to four people for underground expeditions. The resources they bring back help the settlement develop.

До выхода в Early Access игра прошла отдельный плейтест: SteamDB фиксирует его дату 23 июля 2026 года.

One mistake can reshape the entire settlement.

Dungeon Settlers has two very different spaces. On the surface, it uses familiar colony management priorities. Underground, it becomes a top-down tactical crawler. The group can move as one unit, or each member can be controlled separately. Combat runs in real time, but players can pause at any moment. They can inspect the battlefield and issue new orders before the situation gets worse.

The pause system does more than make combat easier. It gives the permadeath rule room to work without turning every fight into a reflex test. Losing a colonist in a dungeon is permanent, so preparation starts before the party leaves the settlement. The game rewards careful party choices and measured decisions instead of reckless exploration.

Поддержка игры продолжилась сразу после запуска: на официальном сайте Dungeon Settlers опубликованы заметки к обновлению v0.4.23 от 12 сентября 2026 года. Это подтверждает активную работу над проектом в первые дни Early Access.

Dungeon Settlers Patch Notes

Each colonist has an individual skill tree. The available categories depend on the character being developed. The trees include primary and secondary abilities, so players can build different expedition groups around the weaknesses they need to cover. This gives each member a useful role beyond simply adding another body to the next run.

The game also tracks day and night cycles and has its own clock for underground trips. Players can pause, resume or speed up time. That is useful during quieter management periods. It stops routine waiting from taking over the settlement side of the game.

Dungeon Settlers does not explain everything at once. Its interface spreads menus and descriptions across the colony and dungeon systems. Learning how those parts work together takes patience. That kind of early friction is familiar in demanding management games, but it remains one of the clearest areas for improvement during Early Access.

The developers plan to keep refining the interface and user experience. They also plan to add new regions, monsters, weapons, abilities and playable races. The roadmap includes performance and localisation work. Mod support is planned for a later stage, and the full release is targeted for 2028.

The game already includes European Spanish text among its ten languages. It has no voice acting in any language. According to Vandal's coverage of the official roadmap, these additions are planned for Early Access development and were not all available at launch.

Support for handheld play is less convincing right now. Steam lists Dungeon Settlers as playable on Steam Deck, but the game does not yet support controllers. The studio says full compatibility with Valve's handheld PC is still in development. Testing on the ROG Xbox Ally was also made more difficult by the same limitation.

Its focus on preparation and the cost of loss gives Dungeon Settlers a sharper identity than a simple genre mash-up. It also sets the game apart from the practical risk calculations discussed in a
