Madrid will host Monday’s Fiesta Nacional ceremony, with 4,380 participants expected and the 8x8 Dragón due to appear for the first time. Official confirmation of the figures and debut is still pending.

Military personnel are already rehearsing at the Getafe air base ahead of Monday’s Fiesta Nacional parade. The event will proceed without units from Ceuta.

Madrid is expected to host 4,380 members of the Armed Forces and state security bodies. Don Felipe and doña Letizia will preside over the ceremony, while the new 8x8 Dragón vehicles are due to make their first public appearance. The display will extend beyond the marching formations. Aircraft will pass overhead, and the ground operation will include vehicles, horses and dogs.

The ceremony begins at 11.00am and will bring the royal family together in the capital. La princesa Leonor will attend after completing her military training and beginning her university studies. La infanta Sofía will travel from París, where she is in her second year of university.

The national celebration has a wider geography than Madrid: on 4 October, Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska presided over a military ceremony and parade in Cádiz honouring the patron saint of the Guardia Civil.

Spanish Government agenda

The 8x8 Dragón is the parade’s most visible novelty. Its appearance remains subject to official confirmation, as do the detailed figures for the event.

A total of 3,850 men and 530 women are expected to march through Madrid. The ground contingent is scheduled to include 144 vehicles and 39 motorcycles. It will also feature 286 horses and five dogs. Above the capital, planners have listed 34 fighter and training aircraft. The schedule also names 16 transport planes and 32 helicopters.

Available independent results do not confirm those totals or the Dragón’s first public appearance at this specific parade. The figures should therefore be treated as provisional until the Ministry of Defence or the government publishes the formal programme.

On 4 October, Military Logistics Support Group No. 61 reported a flag-honouring ceremony in Pozuelo de Alarcón, describing it as a traditional event held as part of preparations for Spain’s National Day. The ceremony adds a confirmed regional prelude to the celebrations around Madrid.

The ceremony will move across three operational layers. Formations will cross Madrid, vehicles will accompany them and aircraft will pass over the city. That structure puts the new armoured vehicles at the centre of public attention.

Telemadrid’s Hispanidad coverage will extend beyond the military display. The broadcaster plans three bullfighting events and a documentary about Hispanic America. The parade will sit within that wider television schedule.

The royal dimension follows an earlier event involving Felipe VI and Letizia. The official Casa Real archive records public engagements by Felipe VI and Letizia in October 2026, but its available entry concerns the state visit of Finland’s president. It does not independently confirm the Madrid parade’s attendance list or the presence of princesa Leonor and infanta Sofía.

The royal participation described for the ceremony therefore remains part of the event announcement rather than a detail corroborated by that particular archive entry.

For viewers in Madrid, the timetable and the airborne part of the route will define the morning. For the institutions involved, the operation combines thousands of personnel on the ground, a large supporting convoy and dozens of aircraft overhead.

Telemadrid’s schedule places the parade alongside bullfighting and a documentary, while the new 8x8 Dragón remains the event’s announced military feature. The Ministry of Defence or the government has yet to publish the formal programme.
