Trump Backs Inflation Surge Amid Iran Conflict. US President Donald Trump has expressed satisfaction with rising inflation. His comments came after record consumer price data was released and against the backdrop of military actions against Iran.

In Washington, US President Donald Trump unexpectedly expressed support for rising inflation while commenting on the latest consumer price data. According to CNBC, the country's annual inflation rate has reached 4.2%—the highest in the past three years. When asked by reporters if he was concerned about accelerating price growth, Trump replied that he considered these figures positive and expressed confidence that inflation would sharply decline after the completion of the military operation against Iran.

During a press briefing in the Oval Office, Trump linked price trends to US actions in the Persian Gulf. He claimed that American forces are allegedly "removing millions of barrels of oil" and "destroyed 22 Iranian vessels"—which, according to him, affects the price of oil, now holding at $85 per barrel. However, the details of these operations remain unclear, and official agencies have not confirmed the president's statements.

US Energy Secretary Chris Wright, speaking before Congress, stated that he was unaware of any large-scale removal of oil from Iran by American forces. According to him, the military merely ensured the passage of tankers through the Strait of Hormuz, while volumes of oil transported via this strategic route have indeed increased over the past week.

At the same time, according to CNBC, core inflation, which excludes food and energy prices, was 2.9% year-on-year, matching analysts' expectations. Nevertheless, Trump's statements have caused concern among Republicans, with the party fearing that voter dissatisfaction over rising prices could negatively affect the results of the November Congressional elections.

Earlier, in May, Trump had already drawn criticism by stating that he does not think about the financial situation of Americans, since his priority is to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. After the president’s new comments, Democrats circulated a video of his remarks on social media, accusing him of indifference to citizens’ problems. Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker and Senator Andy Kim publicly condemned Trump's stance, while political consultants noted that such statements could trigger new pre-election attacks.

For reference: Inflation in the US is traditionally considered one of the key economic indicators influencing cost of living, wage levels, and consumer activity. Rising oil prices and geopolitical conflicts often lead to faster inflation, which can impact the economies of other countries, including Spain, through changes in the cost of energy and goods on global markets.
