Former Telediario presenters return for a 45-minute anniversary special. Pepa Bueno calls it the largest presenter line-up in the programme’s history.
TVE began regular broadcasts in Spain on 28 October 1956.
Seventy years later, RTVE’s anniversary special, ‘El Telediario de nuestras vidas’, brings together presenters from different eras of its news service. The programme will revisit defining events, including Spain’s return to democracy and the COVID-19 pandemic.
It airs on Telediario 2 on Monday 19 October. The 45-minute special is scheduled to begin at 20:55 mainland Spanish time. Viewers can also watch on La 1 and Canal 24 horas. RTVE Play and RTVE.es will carry it online, and it is set to appear on the RTVE Noticias YouTube channel. Carlos del Amor devised and directs the programme, while Antonio Casado is in charge of production. Pepa Bueno describes the gathering as a news programme with the largest presenter line-up in history. Former presenters will return to the Torrespaña studios, a key home for RTVE’s news programmes.
The line-up includes Iñaki Gabilondo and Matías Prats. Pedro Piqueras and Ana Blanco are taking part too. Pepa Bueno joins them. Olga Viza and María Escario will appear, as will Manuel Campo Vidal. Paco Montesdeoca joins the group, while Carlos Franganillo and Lorenzo Milá complete the eleven presenters and journalists. Their careers span generations of Spanish television journalism, with work across news and sport, as well as weather and debate. The planned anniversary broadcast was outlined in earlier coverage.
The special follows the structure of a conventional Telediario, using its familiar sections to trace changes in Spain and around the world. It will cover political events and shifts in society. The review also takes in international developments, then turns to moments from sport and culture. Del Amor says the pace comes from the rapid succession of presenters and news stories that remain vivid in the public imagination. Former presenters will revisit major events from the past seven decades and recall stories they covered during their careers.
Some of the past bulletins got things wrong. Del Amor says the special looks at errors in the news service’s history, from human mistakes to more serious failures. The sports section has been built around a strong line-up. Del Amor also points to TVE’s record in culture and says the broadcaster should give greater support to scientists.
War coverage features in the programme as well. Casado says the special pays tribute to people behind television news, including technicians and administrative staff. It also recognizes other workers whose contributions often go unseen. A historic war reporter will appear, but the programme’s team has not disclosed the person’s identity.
Del Amor singles out the September 11 attacks and Spain’s transition to democracy. Casado chooses the arrival of humans on the Moon. The special is scheduled for Telediario 2 on Monday 19 October at 20:55, with simultaneous distribution across RTVE’s television and digital platforms.
