Six people have been arrested in Badajoz and Jaén in a joint investigation by the National Police and Guardia Civil. Police sources cited by Cadena SER say one woman may have sold four of her children. The inquiry remains open.

Investigators believe four babies were born at a woman’s home and handed to other people for money, without their births being officially registered. The woman was among six people arrested on the morning of 4 November in a joint National Police and Guardia Civil operation in Badajoz, Montijo and Linares, Jaén. Authorities describe the suspected conduct as the alleged sale or trafficking of minors.

Police sources cited by Cadena SER say officers detained the woman at a property on Calle Argentina in Montijo, in the province of Badajoz. She is suspected of trafficking minors and allegedly selling four of her children. The initial arrest total was three people in Badajoz, two in Montijo and one in Linares. The allegation has not been established in court. Investigators have not disclosed the circumstances of the alleged transactions.

The operation involved searches at three homes, one in each location. Officers searched a home on Calle Tenca in the La Luneta district of Badajoz. They also searched a separate home in Montijo. In Linares, Jaén, investigators reportedly located children connected with the case. The operation extended from Extremadura into Andalusia.

Specialist Family and Women’s Care units (UFAM) from the National Police took part alongside Guardia Civil judicial-police officers. They are working to establish how the babies were handed over and who may have been involved. Authorities are also trying to determine how many children may have been affected and locate them. The investigation remains open, and further arrests have not been ruled out. Authorities have not confirmed whether more than four children may be affected. The roles of the other five people arrested have not been made public.

The investigation remains open under judicial supervision. Its procedural status differs from that of a separate Barcelona case, where a judge ordered an 18-year-old held without bail, reported earlier.

Extremadura’s Government delegate, María Teresa Macías, declined to give further details while proceedings continued. In a translation from Spanish, she said judicial proceedings must be respected and that she could only report information concerning the State Security Forces. Her exact words were: “Se tienen que respetar las actuaciones judiciales y solamente puedo informar de la parte que corresponde a las Fuerzas y Cuerpos de Seguridad del Estado”.
