Spain’s Largest Fast Charging Station for Electric Vehicles Opens in Madrid with 40 Points. Madrid has launched the country’s largest fast-charging station for electric vehicles, offering 40 charging points and a capacity of up to 350 kW. The entire facility operates on 100% renewable energy, reinforcing the city’s commitment to sustainable transport.
Madrid has taken a significant step in developing its electric vehicle infrastructure by opening the country's largest fast and ultra-fast charging station. The facility is located in the parking lot of the Nuevos Ministerios metro station, right in the city center.
The new charging station features 40 charging points with capacities ranging from 175 to 350 kW, allowing significantly reduced charging times for modern electric vehicles. The station's total installed power reaches 3,200 kW, thanks to two transformers of 1,600 kW each.
The project was carried out with the participation of several leading industry companies, including Iberdrola | bp pulse, who provided 22 charging units. All the electricity used at the station comes from renewable sources and is properly certified, highlighting the project's environmental focus.
Thanks to the high power of the chargers, electric vehicles supporting 800-volt systems, such as the Porsche Taycan, can recharge their battery from 10 to 80% in just 18 minutes.
In addition to technical upgrades, the project included a comprehensive modernization of the space: accessibility was improved with the installation of a new elevator and adapted routes, while safety, ventilation, and lighting systems were also upgraded. Advanced license plate recognition technology and contactless payment via VIA-T were implemented.
The opening of this station reflects Madrid's commitment to developing sustainable mobility and creating convenient infrastructure for electric vehicle owners, which helps reduce emissions and improve the quality of the urban environment.
