George Russell emerged victorious at the Formula 1 stage in Singapore, showcasing a confident lead right from the start. This marks the British driver’s second triumph of the season after his earlier win in Canada. The title race is heating up: Max Verstappen finished second, narrowing the gap in the drivers’ standings. He is now 63 points ahead of Oscar Piastri, who sits in fourth place, and 41 points clear of Lando Norris, who completed the podium on the track.
Verstappen faced technical difficulties—over 22 laps he battled rear brake issues, but managed to hold his position ahead of Norris. Six more races remain, three of which include sprints, meaning the championship battle is still open. The McLaren team has already secured an early victory in the Constructors’ Cup, though this achievement is often overshadowed by the drivers’ individual successes. Still, the intrigue remains in the drivers’ standings, where the competition continues down to the wire.
Fernando Alonso delivered one of the most impressive races of the season. Despite losing seven seconds during a pit stop, the Spaniard managed to climb from eighth position to finish seventh, edging out Lewis Hamilton by just four-tenths of a second. Hamilton struggled with braking and cut several corners, earning a five-second penalty. This allowed Alonso to move up a spot and bring six valuable points to the Aston Martin team.
Carlos Sainz started only eighteenth and was counting on a safety car appearance, but that did not happen. Ten laps before the finish, he switched to soft tires and began a rapid charge, overtaking five opponents in quick succession. As a result, Sainz completed the top ten. If not for the penalty that dropped him to the back of the pack, the Ferrari driver would have had a chance to fight for a place in the top five, especially considering the team’s issues in the final laps.
The race began with intense battles: Lando Norris quickly moved up from fifth to third place, passing Oscar Piastri after a minor contact. Russell kept the lead while Alonso worked actively to regain lost ground. Pit stops were marked by tactical decisions and errors, including a delay for Alonso that cost him valuable time. In the final part of the distance, the Spaniard impressively overtook Ayumu Iwasa and several other rivals.
Verstappen had to contend with technical difficulties, but kept his lead over Norris, who was unable to get close enough to challenge. Sainz, thanks to his late pit stop, managed to score points, and Norris finished the race in third. The entire race featured tight battles, strategic reshuffles and spectacular overtakes, making the Singapore round one of the most eventful of the 2025 season.
