Spanish actor Álex García is going through one of the most difficult periods of his life. Following the sudden death of his partner, actress Verónica Echegui, the 43-year-old artist from the Canary Islands is coping with his grief privately, in his characteristically reserved manner. Despite his wish to avoid media attention during the farewell, photographers still managed to capture his sorrow. On social media, fans and colleagues offered their condolences and paid tribute to the actress, known for her roles in ‘Yo soy la Juani’ and ‘Yo no soy esa.’
Álex García never actively sought widespread fame. He first encountered celebrity at the age of 13 in his homeland, working at the local television channel Canal 7 del Atlántico, and at the time, he was not ready for the constant attention. However, this did not stop him from moving to Madrid to pursue his dream of becoming an actor. He enrolled in the Cristina Rota drama school—Cristina Rota is the mother of renowned actors María and Juan Diego Botto. Soon after, he began landing his first roles. He made his national television debut in the series ‘Compañeros,’ which in its first season starred Concha Velasco. However, García received the greatest recognition for his work in theatre, particularly in the production of ‘Salomé’ directed by Miguel Narros. He met his future partner in 2010 while filming ‘Seis puntos sobre Emma.’
He became widely popular across the country thanks to his roles in TV series. Among them are ‘Amar en tiempos revueltos’ on TVE, as well as ‘Sin tetas no hay paraíso’ and ‘Tierra de Lobos’ on Tele 5. In recent years, his career reached a new level through involvement in projects by leading streaming platforms: ‘Antidisturbios’ by Rodrigo Sorogoyen and ‘El inmortal’ on Movistar+, as well as ‘Un asunto privado’ with Aura Garrido and Jean Reno on Amazon Prime. His filmography also includes box-office hits such as ‘Si yo fuera rico’ and ‘Una vida no tan simple’.
García rarely gives interviews about his personal life, but in 2024 he shared some insights into his worldview. The actor admitted that he believes in higher powers, convinced that “such a beautiful place where we live cannot be a coincidence.” He practices meditation and prefers to reflect not on death, but on “what was before, during, and after life.” García said he enjoys cooking for friends, especially excelling at Alicante-style paella and vegetable cream soups. Despite being a sociable person, he increasingly values solitude. The actor loves Asturias, where in 2023 he and Verónica purchased a plot of land. He tries to limit gadget use, avoids unnecessary noise, and is devoted to his three dogs. As a native of the Canary Islands, he cannot imagine his life without the sea and remains calm about both criticism and awards.
