Queen Máxima of the Netherlands once again showcased her refined sense of style during a working visit to Zaandstad on October 15, 2025. Accompanied by Secretary of State for Participation and Integration Jurgen Nobel, she took part in an event dedicated to the ‘Zaandam-Oost Pact 2024–2044.’ This initiative aims to expand development opportunities, especially for young people. Her appearance came just a day after her visit to Houten, where the Queen managed to transform one of her most understated looks of the year by pinning two large crystal floral brooches to her chest, instantly drawing everyone’s attention.
For her recent outing, Máxima opted for tweed—a material that never goes out of style. This fabric is especially beloved by such style icons as Caroline of Monaco and her daughter Charlotte Casiraghi. Tweed is also favored by the Spanish Queen Letizia, who chose a dress made from this thick woolen fabric to celebrate Spain’s National Day on October 12. However, for the Dutch Queen, this choice was not only a fashion statement but also a demonstration of her commitment to the principles of sustainability. Instead of buying a new outfit, she chose to revisit her own wardrobe.
The spotlight was on her famous tweed dress by Oscar de la Renta, featuring a black, white, and ochre color scheme. This creation by the renowned fashion house, founded by the legendary designer, is adorned with a row of elegant gold buttons and stands out with its striking raw fringe on the cuffs, pockets, and hemline. Interestingly, this isn’t the first time the queen has appeared in this dress in public. She has worn it twice before, always during the fall season. The dress made its debut on November 8, 2021. Maxima wore it again for the Mastercard European Advisory Board roundtable on October 27, 2023, and for the reception of the 35th ASE Planetary Congress participants at the Royal Palace on October 1, 2024.
Maxima skillfully complements this tricolor tweed outfit, typically accentuating her waist with a thin metallic gold belt. This simple detail makes her silhouette appear even more refined. This time, she decided to add a bold touch by swapping classic pumps for high black slouch boots, known as ‘slouchy boots.’ Incidentally, her daughters, Princesses Alexia and Ariane, are also fond of this style of footwear. The look was finished with vintage earrings by Argentinian brand Mercedes Robirosa. This 1980s-inspired accessory consists of three gold hoops, each featuring a pearl at its center. The queen first wore them on February 23, 2023, and they’ve since appeared in her ensembles eight times, including during her visit to the Czech Republic in June 2025.
Analyzing Queen Máxima’s autumn appearances, her remarkable stylistic versatility is impossible to overlook. She effortlessly embraces entirely different roles, whether in New York, Luxembourg, or France. This true fashion marathon highlights her ability to shift from classic ensembles to bolder, more vibrant looks. For example, in France she appeared in a chic white outfit adorned with pearls, while at the gala banquet in Luxembourg on the occasion of Grand Duke Guillaume’s coronation, she dazzled in an unforgettable blue evening gown. According to experts, her impeccable taste and willingness to experiment make her one of the brightest figures on the global fashion scene.
