Record Year for Volkswagen: Commercial Vehicles in Spain Surprise the Market

A surge in sales, electrification breakthroughs and new records — discover how Volkswagen is reshaping the automotive landscape

Volkswagen Vehículos Comerciales exceeded all expectations in 2025. Sales, profits, and market share reached historic highs. The Spanish commercial vehicle market has become the center of attention.

In 2025, the Spanish commercial vehicle market witnessed a true breakthrough: the Volkswagen Vehículos Comerciales division not only met its targets but easily surpassed them. The company recorded all-time highs in sales, market share, and dealership profitability, sending immediate ripples through the entire industry. This level of success not only cemented the brand’s position but also sent a clear signal to competitors: the rules of the game are visibly changing.

An impressive result — 22,058 new registrations — allowed Volkswagen not only to break the psychological barrier of 20,000 vehicles, but also to achieve a 30% year-on-year increase. By comparison, the overall Spanish commercial vehicle market grew by just 11.6%, while Volkswagen’s share hit a record 11.9%. These aren’t just numbers — they demonstrate the power of a strategy where product, service, and team engagement work as a single entity.

Financial success

The sharp increase in sales had an immediate impact on dealership profitability. In 2025, the profitability of Volkswagen Vehículos Comerciales dealers reached 3%, more than double the industry average of 1.4%. This result stands as an absolute record for the brand in Spain. Company management emphasizes that such high profitability is a direct outcome of sound strategy and precise calculation.

Two areas that provided additional momentum were after-sales service and the used car market. Revenue from spare parts sales increased by 5% compared to 2024, while used car sales grew by 4%, reaching 5,330 units. Both segments also set their own records, highlighting a comprehensive approach to business development.

Model lineup leaders

An analysis of sales by model revealed clear favorites. The Caddy once again confirmed its flagship status, selling more than 8,100 units and adding 23% to last year’s result. The T family (California, Multivan, Caravelle, Transporter) also showed double-digit growth, reaching 7,730 vehicles sold.

Special attention was drawn to the Amarok, which made a real splash on the market: sales of this model more than doubled—from 425 to 1,028 vehicles. In 2025, the Amarok received a special version aimed at the premium segment, allowing it to occupy a new niche among pickups.

However, the true standout of the year was the Crafter. Thanks to a focus on specialized solutions and unique modifications, Crafter sales increased by 35%, exceeding 4,100 units. This surge was made possible by flexibility and a keen focus on customer needs.

Electrification and innovation

In the electrified commercial vehicle segment, Volkswagen ranked second in sales volume in Spain. Hybrid and fully electric models accounted for 18% of the brand’s total sales, which is twice the market average. In total, 4,062 electrified vehicles were sold in 2025: 2,905 were plug-in hybrids (an increase of 284%) and 1,157 were fully electric (an increase of 123%).

Among hybrids, the Caddy PHEV led the segment as the most popular model, while the Multivan PHEV took third place. In the electric vehicle category, the ID. Buzz was the second-best-selling commercial model, and a new seven-seat, short-wheelbase version is expected in 2026, which should further strengthen the brand’s position.

Looking ahead

Plans for 2026 are based on confidence in the company’s capabilities and ambitious goals. The management of Volkswagen Vehículos Comerciales aims to maintain its current volumes and market share despite forecasts of stable demand at around 200,000 commercial vehicles in Spain. Special attention is being paid to fleet renewal: the average age of commercial vehicles in the country exceeds 15 years, and reducing this figure is a top priority to improve safety and lower the environmental impact.

A focus on specialization, the development of electrification, and maintaining high profitability enable the brand to look to the future with optimism. As competition intensifies and customer expectations rise, Volkswagen Vehículos Comerciales demonstrates not only its ability to adapt, but also to set new standards for the entire industry.

Volkswagen Vehículos Comerciales is a division of the German automotive giant specializing in the production and sale of commercial vehicles. In Spain, the brand holds one of the leading positions, offering a wide range of models from compact vans to specialized business solutions. The company actively implements innovations, placing particular emphasis on electrification and the individual needs of its clients. Thanks to a flexible strategy and a results-driven approach, Volkswagen Vehículos Comerciales has become a symbol of reliability and progress in the Spanish market.
