In Spain, almost every car owner has had to deal with vehicle repairs at least once. Such visits to the service center are usually linked to noticeable malfunctions that hinder the car’s use and require considerable time and money.
However, there are faults that can go unnoticed for a long time. A recent study has revealed that millions of cars on the country’s roads have dangerous defects affecting one of the most critical systems: the brakes.
According to the Association of Automotive Parts Suppliers Sernauto, around 6.8 million vehicles in Spain are being driven with brake system malfunctions. That’s about a fifth of the entire car fleet in the country. These figures raise serious concerns, given how vital reliable brakes are for road safety.
Experts stress the importance of spotting early warning signs of potential problems. Among them are unusual noises when pressing the brake pedal, vibrations, or changes in the amount of force needed to stop the car. If the pedal feels too soft or, conversely, too stiff, this could indicate a fault.
Another warning sign is increased braking distance. If it takes longer or requires more space to stop than usual, it’s essential to have the vehicle checked by a specialist immediately.
Experts recommend not delaying a visit to specialists at the slightest suspicion of brake system malfunctions. Regular maintenance and attentive monitoring of your vehicle’s condition help prevent accidents and ensure safety on the road.
