Money Instead of War: How Joaquín Torres Tries to End a Family Conflict

Joaquín Torres offered his brother Julio 25% to end the family dispute

Joaquín Torres has made an offer to his brother Julio that could change the course of a high-profile family dispute. At stake are millions, trust, and the reputation of one of Spain’s most prominent dynasties.

In the spotlight of Spanish society pages is an unexpected move by Joaquín Torres, who has decided to make a public offer to his brother Julio in an effort to end the protracted conflict over the family fortune. A story involving large sums of money, parental trust, and painful accusations has once again made the front pages after news broke that the architect is ready to compromise for the sake of family peace.

A family drama on the edge

The legal battle between the Torres Vérez brothers is entering a new stage: in July, open hearings will begin in Madrid, where Julio Torres Vérez, the younger son of the late Juan Torres Piñón, will appear in the defendant’s seat. According to Divinity, the charges include embezzlement, fraud, and mismanagement of family companies. The whole story began after the death of their mother, Joaquina Verez, when three of the four brothers — Joaquín, Mayte, and Andrés — for the first time openly spoke about their rift with Julio and how their parents’ trust turned into a financial disaster for the family.

In their official statement, the brothers did not hide the fact that, in their view, it was Julio—entrusted with full authority to manage the family assets—who made serious mistakes and put not only the business, but personal relations within the Torres Vérez clan at risk. As a result, it is claimed, the parents became completely dependent on their children, and their once-impressive fortune—at risk of bankruptcy.

Millions, trust, and accusations

According to Joaquín Torres, the parents, who once had a fortune of over 41 million euros, ultimately ended up penniless, with all their assets seized. The architect does not hide the fact that he had to take responsibility for his parents, pay for their health insurance, and deal with the consequences of his younger brother’s financial decisions. The case files mention other details: allegedly, Julio used relatives as loan guarantors and also transferred funds from family companies to his own firm, JUTORVE, S.L., which, according to the plaintiffs, led to the disappearance of millions and a buildup of debt.

Documents obtained by Divinity mention the parents’ “blind trust” in their younger son and state that this very trust turned out to be the family’s fatal mistake. Now, years after their mother’s death, the brothers continue to fight not only for justice but also for the chance to finally close this painful chapter of their story.

An attempt at reconciliation

Amid the legal drama, Joaquín Torres unexpectedly makes a move toward his brother: he publicly offers Julio 25% of everything if he agrees to a compromise and ends the protracted conflict. According to the architect, he is tired of endless disputes and no longer wants to live in an atmosphere of hostility. His goal is not to revisit old grievances, but to put an end to a story that has already cost the family too much.

Joaquín notes that due to prolonged procedures, his mother’s inheritance still has not been formalized, and the companies continue to lose ground. He emphasizes that the main thing is not to divide the past, but to find a way to move forward, even if that means giving up part of the assets.

Family stories under the spotlight

Family conflicts within well-known dynasties always attract special public interest, especially when it comes to names like Torres Vérez. Attention to detail, public statements, and unexpected offers only fuel the discussion. Incidentally, in the Spanish show business, it is not uncommon for personal dramas to become the subject of intense scrutiny: for example, recently there was a debate over how Omar Montes openly spoke about his income and business, which also sparked a wave of comments and debates.

The story of the Torres Vérez family is yet another reminder of how fragile even the strongest bonds can be when not only emotions, but millions are at stake. How this drama will end remains to be seen, but it is already clear: the compromise proposed by Joaquín may become the most talked-about gesture of the season.
