Captivity and Escape How a Torture Victim Broke Free from Hell in Murcia

Unexpected twists, secretive investigations, and shocking revelations — this story has turned the town upside down

A woman vanished for nearly two years She was discovered injured after a daring escape The case involves threats violence and the silence of neighbors

A story that shocked Murcia and all of Spain has once again raised questions about safety and the indifference of bystanders. A woman who disappeared almost two years ago managed to escape captivity, where she suffered abuse. This incident has sparked debate about how such tragedies can occur in modern Spanish cities and why neighbors often choose not to intervene.

Salma, a Moroccan citizen, went missing at the age of 36. Her disappearance remained unresolved until, after 680 days, she appeared at a medical center in Murcia. During this time, she had been kept in a house in the San José de la Vega district where, according to her, she was isolated, constantly monitored, and abused by a man who was her former partner. The house was surrounded by a high fence, and the doors were always locked.

Escape from Captivity

Everything changed in February when Salma spotted a ladder left in the yard. Seizing the moment, she climbed over the wall and reached the nearest medical facility in the Infante neighborhood. There, doctors found she had multiple injuries: bruises, cuts, a deep head wound, missing teeth, and partial loss of vision in one eye. The medical staff immediately alerted emergency services and the police.

Police have detained the alleged kidnapper, a Spanish citizen, as well as three others suspected of complicity and concealing the crime. Among them were neighbors who, according to investigators, were aware of what was happening. One of those detained had even taken Salma to the hospital after another beating, but threatened her not to go to the police.

Investigation details

During a search of the house where the woman was held, police officers discovered cold and firearms, drugs, as well as items that, according to the victim, were used to tie her up and keep her captive. The investigation is ongoing, and all four detainees will soon appear in court on charges related to violence against women.

Authorities stress that the final decision in the case will be made by the court. This incident has once again raised concerns about the importance of not being indifferent to others’ suffering and reporting suspicious situations in time.

Similar cases in Spain

In recent years, Spain has faced several high-profile cases involving the prolonged captivity of individuals against their will. In Valencia and Seville, authorities uncovered instances where victims had been held by their captors for years. In both cases, neighbors also suspected something was wrong but were slow to contact the police. These stories highlight how silence and inaction from those nearby often become part of the tragedy. Authorities continue to urge citizens to be vigilant about what is happening around them and not to hesitate to report possible crimes.
