In the early hours of Sunday, residents of the provinces of Granada and neighboring Jaén were awakened by tremors. Seismologists recorded an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.8, whose epicenter was just seven kilometers from Villacarrillo. The quake originated at a shallow depth, allowing the vibration to be felt even in nearby towns.
Despite the noticeable strength, there were no serious consequences for infrastructure or the population. In Santo Tomé, Iznatoraf, and Sabiote, some residents reported slight swaying of furniture and trembling walls, but no property was damaged. No one required medical assistance.
Seismic activity in this area is not uncommon, but in recent days experts have noted a marked increase in the number of tremors. Over the past week alone, fifteen such events have been registered in the region, and since the beginning of the month, the number has reached twenty. The latest tremor was the strongest in the past six months, surpassing even the November earthquake, which measured 2.8 in magnitude.
