
Late Wednesday night, a major fire broke out in a residential building on Badajoz Street in Badalona, a suburb of Barcelona, injuring eight people. The incident occurred at around 1:30 a.m. The flames rapidly swept through the apartment, engulfing the hallway and living room, while the other rooms filled with thick smoke and were exposed to extreme heat.
Among the victims, one person is in critical condition and another has serious injuries. The remaining six sustained minor injuries. All the injured were urgently evacuated and taken to various medical facilities in the city and Barcelona. Three were admitted to the Germans Trias i Pujol hospital, another to the Badalona municipal hospital, while the person with severe injuries was transferred to Vall d’Hebron hospital in Barcelona.
Six ambulance teams and a joint crew of firefighters and medics arrived quickly at the scene. In total, nine fire brigades from Badalona and Barcelona took part in extinguishing the blaze. Thanks to their coordinated efforts, more casualties were prevented and the fire was swiftly contained.

Their main focus was evacuating residents and preventing the fire from spreading to adjoining apartments. The fire was contained within a single apartment, but smoke spread throughout the entire floor. Some residents required assistance to exit the building. After extinguishing the blaze, specialists ventilated the premises and inspected the condition of the building’s structures.
Condition of the victims and aftermath of the fire
According to the latest reports, one of the victims is in extremely critical condition and is being kept alive by doctors. Another person sustained serious injuries but is considered to be in stable condition. The other six victims suffered minor burns and smoke inhalation; three of them have already been discharged home after receiving medical assistance.
As a result of the fire, the hallway and living room of the apartment were completely destroyed, while the other rooms suffered damage from smoke and high temperatures. Residents of neighboring apartments temporarily left their homes while specialists assess the building’s safety. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
