Kia Sportage 2026 vs Jaecoo 5: A New Challenge for the SUV Segment in Spain

Kia Sportage 2026 vs Jaecoo 5: dimensions, engines, features and prices on the Spanish market

The Kia Sportage 2026 enters the Spanish market with a refreshed design and a wide range of engines. Jaecoo 5 challenges the Korean bestseller with aggressive pricing and an electric version. We compare the key features of both SUVs under €30,000.

In 2026, the affordable SUV segment in Spain saw the addition of two notable contenders: the updated Kia Sportage and the newcomer Jaecoo 5. Both vehicles target buyers seeking a modern crossover with extensive features and a price tag of up to €30,000. While the Sportage has long established itself among market leaders, the Jaecoo 5 is just beginning its push for Spanish customers’ attention, focusing on aggressive pricing and electrified versions.

Dimensions and architecture

The fifth-generation Kia Sportage, which underwent a facelift in 2025, has grown noticeably compared to its rival: it measures 4,540 mm in length, 1,865 mm in width, 1,645 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,680 mm. This is a typical C-SUV, designed for families and long journeys. The Jaecoo 5, which arrived on the Spanish market in the second half of 2025, is more compact: 4,380 mm long, 1,860 mm wide, 1,650 mm tall, with a 2,620 mm wheelbase. This format makes the Chinese SUV slightly more maneuverable in the city, but less spacious than its Korean competitor.

Boot capacity

Practicality is one of the key criteria for SUV buyers in Spain. The Kia Sportage offers an impressive trunk volume of 590 liters in standard versions and 540 liters for the hybrid, expandable to 1,780 and 1,715 liters respectively with the rear seats folded down. The Jaecoo 5 lags behind in this respect: 480 liters in regular configuration and up to 1,285 liters with the interior transformed. For family trips and carrying large luggage, the Sportage holds the advantage.

Engines and versions

The 2026 Kia Sportage engine lineup covers a wide range: a 1.6 T-GDi gasoline engine with 150 or 180 hp, a 136 hp diesel MHEV (mild hybrid) with ECO environmental certification, a classic 239 hp HEV hybrid, and a powerful 288 hp PHEV (plug-in hybrid) with up to 65 km electric-only range. Both manual and automatic transmissions are available, as well as all-wheel drive versions. The Jaecoo 5 offers three options: a 1.6-liter 147 hp gasoline engine with automatic transmission, a 224 hp HEV hybrid with ECO certification, and a fully electric version with 211 hp and a range of up to 400 km (60.9 kWh battery). Thus, the Jaecoo 5 meets key market demands but does not offer any diesel options, instead standing out with its electric model—an option not found in the Sportage.

Equipment: what’s included as standard

In its standard configuration, the Concept Kia Sportage comes equipped with an electronic parking brake, emergency braking assistant with traffic sign recognition, tire pressure monitoring system, driver fatigue monitoring, speed limit recognition, LED headlights, 17-inch alloy wheels, electric mirrors, light and rain sensors, dual-zone climate control, cruise control, a multimedia system with a 12.3-inch touchscreen, auto-dimming rearview mirror, lane keeping assistant, keyless entry and start, as well as parking sensors. The Jaecoo 5 in the Pure version features air conditioning, a multifunction steering wheel, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a multimedia system with a 12.3-inch screen, 18-inch wheels, LED taillights, electric mirrors, lane change assistant, automatic high beams, emergency braking assistant, forward collision warning, autonomous braking, tire pressure monitoring, electronic handbrake, parking sensors, keyless entry, light and rain sensors, voice assistant, hill-start assist system, and support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Prices and market strategy

The Kia Sportage 2026 launches in Spain starting at 29,270 euros for the base 150 hp petrol version. The HEV hybrid starts at 29,780 euros, while the PHEV is priced from 44,230 euros. Jaecoo 5, by contrast, focuses on aggressive pricing: with all discounts applied, the base version costs 19,990 euros (officially — 27,500 euros), the hybrid starts at 30,000 euros, and the electric model from 33,500 euros. This price difference is particularly striking given the equipment and technical capabilities, which could attract buyers seeking the best value.

Key differences and market context

Comparing the Kia Sportage 2026 and the Jaecoo 5, it becomes clear: the Korean SUV wins in terms of dimensions and trunk capacity, and also offers a wider choice of engines, including diesel and plug-in hybrid options. The Jaecoo 5, meanwhile, takes the lead in price and by offering an electric version, which could be a decisive factor for buyers looking for an affordable electric car. Both vehicles are equipped with modern safety and comfort systems, which have already become standard for Asian brands on the Spanish market. It is important to note that the price difference between the models can reach 9,000 euros when all discounts are considered, and when comparing hybrid and electric versions, the advantage of the Jaecoo 5 is even more apparent.

Interestingly, the trend of new players entering the SUV segment with aggressive pricing and a wide range of engines is nothing new for Spain. For example, previously the MG HS PHEV also shifted the balance of power in the hybrid crossover class, confirming the growing competition and market dynamics.

For Spanish buyers, the choice between the Kia Sportage 2026 and the Jaecoo 5 will largely depend on their priorities: maximum practicality and a proven reputation versus an attractive price and electrification. Both SUVs are already available at official dealerships, allowing customers to compare them in person and select the optimal configuration for their needs.
