In the municipality of Quintanilla de Tres Barrios, located in the province of Soria, officers from the Guardia Civil detained a local resident who was hunting with a firearm. The man, a resident of El Burgo de Osma, was under a court order prohibiting him from possessing or carrying weapons due to a previous domestic violence conviction. Nevertheless, he was spotted on hunting grounds with a shotgun, prompting immediate action from law enforcement.
The incident took place on December 8, 2025, during an organized hunt. Officers from the Seprona unit, together with colleagues from the border and fiscal control division, spotted the man with a weapon. When the patrol appeared, he attempted to flee, but his movements were tracked from the air, allowing authorities to quickly locate him.
Chase and arrest
After the suspect left the hunting area, Guardia Civil officers located a car nearby belonging to the man. A records check confirmed his identity and the existence of an active weapons ban, as well as a revoked license. An inspection of the vehicle revealed empty shotgun cases, but the weapon itself has not yet been found.
The man was detained at the scene and taken to the police station for further legal procedures. He faces charges under two articles: violation of a court order and illegal possession of firearms. An investigation is underway to establish all the circumstances of the incident and to locate the weapon used on the day of the event.
Legal consequences
The case is under the supervision of the first instance court and Investigation Unit No. 1 of El Burgo de Osma. Criminal proceedings have been initiated against the detainee for violation of a court verdict and illegal possession of weapons. According to the current criminal code, such offenses carry severe penalties, ranging from a fine to up to five years in prison, depending on the severity of the circumstances and the type of weapon involved.
Violating a court order, especially in cases related to domestic violence, is considered an aggravating factor. In such cases, courts may impose prison sentences of up to one year or substantial fines. The investigation is currently ongoing, with authorities working to collect evidence and clarify all details of the incident.
Firearms control
The incident in Soria has once again drawn attention to the issue of firearms control and the enforcement of court decisions. Spain enforces strict regulations on the storage and use of firearms, especially for individuals under investigation or convicted in cases of domestic violence. Violating these rules can lead not only to administrative penalties but also to criminal prosecution.
The investigation revealed that the man had been under constant police surveillance due to a previous conviction. His actions prompted an immediate response and coordinated efforts by several units of the Guardia Civil. Authorities are currently determining the appropriate pre-trial measures and the further fate of the detainee.
