An unusual incident occurred on Monday near Estepona: a man was found drifting on an inflatable mattress in the open sea, about 37 kilometers from the coast. He was spotted by a passing vessel, after which a rescue team quickly arrived at the scene.
The incident took place southeast of the Málaga coast. The crew of the passing ship was the first to notice the man in this unusual situation. After receiving the distress signal, a rescue boat quickly headed to the area and brought the man on board. Upon arrival ashore, it was determined that his health was not at risk.
Rescuers stressed that the man was not a migrant and had not arrived on the mattress from another country. According to them, he used some kind of improvised paddle to move across the water, which allowed him to get so far from land. How he ended up in the open sea remains a mystery, but experts remind everyone: even the most harmless flotation devices can become dangerous far from shore.
Rescue services once again emphasized the importance of caution when spending time on the water. They advise people to stay alert and remember that the sea is not a place for experiments with inflatable mattresses and similar devices. Even in good weather and calm water, the situation can quickly get out of control.
