Starting May 27, Spain will see another price increase for all major Netflix plans. The company has notified users that the new rates will affect the standard, standard with ads, and premium subscriptions, as well as the cost of additional accounts. The changes will apply to everyone renewing their subscription after the end of the current billing period.
Now, the standard subscription with ads will cost €8.99 per month instead of the previous €6.99. The standard plan will rise to €14.99 (previously €13.99), and the premium plan to €21.99 (up from €19.99). For an additional user with ads, the fee will be €5.99 (previously €4.99), and without ads — €6.99 (previously €5.99).
Reasons for the changes
In a letter to subscribers, Netflix explained that updating prices will allow them to continue investing in new movies and series. The platform promised to release new projects every week and announced 76 new releases for the next month alone. The company notes that this is necessary to maintain quality and expand content offerings.
Context and consequences
The last time Netflix raised the prices of all its plans in Spain at once was in October 2024. In 2025, the service completely discontinued its basic plan, moving clients to the standard with ads package. The new price hike coincided with news that Netflix had dropped out of the race to buy Warner Bros and HBO Max, losing the deal to Paramount Skydance, which offered $110 billion for the assets. Amid these developments, the company’s shares fell by 9%.
In June, Netflix co-founder and chairman Reed Hastings is expected to step down. These changes come amid growing competition in the streaming market and ongoing shifts in the company’s strategy.
