Spanish Supreme Court prepares unusual payout in secret disclosure case

A partner in the Ayuso case and an unexpected twist—€10,000 at the center of a scandal, new details surface, raising fresh questions and sparking heated debate

The Spanish Supreme Court announced a €10,000 transfer to Ayuso’s partner. The funds were issued after the former Attorney General paid a fine. The case has taken an unexpected turn and sparked widespread public reaction.

The decision of the Supreme Court of Spain to transfer a large sum to the partner of Madrid’s head came as a surprising outcome of a high-profile trial. For many Spaniards, this event illustrates how even the highest-ranking figures can face the consequences of their actions, while also highlighting the importance of transparency and accountability in public institutions. The spotlight was not only on the people involved in the case but also on the mechanisms by which the state compensates victims for their losses.

Transfer details

The court has officially notified Alberto González Amador, the partner of Madrid’s president, that former Attorney General Álvaro García Ortiz has already paid €17,200 into the state treasury. This amount covers both the fine and compensation imposed after he was found guilty of disclosing confidential information. González Amador now needs to provide his account details to receive €10,000 owed to him as compensation for moral damages.

The procedure began after the state’s legal service confirmed that the funds had been received. The document states that the money was collected voluntarily, with support from the professional prosecutors’ association. García Ortiz personally took full responsibility for paying the entire amount, despite the collective nature of the fundraising.

Role of the legal services

All formalities were handled by the state attorney José Ignacio Osío, who had been overseeing the case from the very beginning. During the trial, he was supported by his colleague Consuelo Castro. The payment receipt clarification states that the payment was made strictly in accordance with the court’s decision, which allowed only three days to fulfill the sentence handed down in December. Interestingly, the injured party had initially demanded compensation of 400,000 euros, but the court set the sum at a significantly lower amount.

This case sparked discussion among lawyers and the public, as it is rare to see such a swift and coordinated response from government agencies in enforcing court rulings, especially in cases involving high-ranking officials.

Fundraising and public response

The professional association of prosecutors, previously headed by García Ortiz, announced the start of a fundraising campaign back in December. The campaign was open to all members of the association, and later, other prosecutors and ordinary citizens wishing to support the former attorney general joined in. In the association’s statement, it was emphasized that this action was an expression of solidarity and support for a colleague who, in their view, acted in the interest of the law and the protection of state institutions.

Although initially the fundraising was intended only for members of the association, in the end, those who were not part of the organization also joined in. As a result, the necessary amount was raised to cover all of García Ortiz’s financial obligations to the state and the injured party.

Consequences for the system

The story of compensation paid to the partner of Madrid’s head became an example of how collective action can influence high-profile cases. For Spanish society, this case served as a reminder of the importance of civic responsibility and that even those in power are not immune to the consequences of their actions. Attention to the details of the process and transparency at every stage of transferring funds drew wide public interest and sparked discussion in professional circles.
