In Havana (La Habana), Cuban law enforcement officers have detained Martiño Ramos Soto, previously convicted in Spain of serious crimes against a minor. The teacher from Galicia (Galicia) had been sentenced by a court in Ourense (Ourense) to 13.5 years in prison for sexual acts committed against his student. After the verdict was handed down, the man disappeared, and locating him became one of the top priorities for Spanish agencies tasked with tracking down highly dangerous fugitives.
Ramos Soto’s name appeared on a list of the ten most wanted individuals whose capture was considered critical for national security. Spanish authorities repeatedly appealed to the public for help in locating the suspect, and his case sparked widespread public outcry. For a long time, the fugitive’s whereabouts remained unknown, complicating both the extradition process and the enforcement of his sentence.
The arrest in the Cuban capital was the result of coordinated actions between international organizations and local law enforcement. According to preliminary reports, Martiño Ramos Soto was living in Cuba under a false identity, attempting to avoid attention. However, through joint efforts and information sharing, authorities were able to confirm his identity and carry out the arrest.
The extradition process is expected to begin soon so that the convicted individual can serve his sentence in his home country. Spanish authorities have already thanked their Cuban counterparts for assisting in the arrest of one of the most dangerous criminals on the international wanted list. The Ramos Soto case has once again drawn attention to the issue of sexual crimes in educational institutions and the need for stricter oversight of such incidents.
