A night storm that swept across the Canary Islands left a significant mark: within just a few hours, emergency services responded to more than 120 incidents. The main impact was felt in Tenerife and Gran Canaria, where residents faced a series of issues ranging from landslides to flooded homes.
Strong winds and heavy rain began late in the evening, quickly resulting in emergencies across several municipalities. In Tenerife, San Cristóbal de La Laguna, Icod de los Vinos, and Arona suffered the most. On Gran Canaria, the worst conditions were reported in Mogán, San Bartolomé de Tirajana, and Agüimes. In these areas, the severe weather disrupted daily life, and local residents were forced to seek assistance.
Numerous landslides and collapses were reported on the islands’ roads, making traffic difficult or completely blocking certain sections. In some places, drivers had to find alternative routes or abandon their trips altogether. Additionally, the downpour overwhelmed sewage systems, causing flooding in homes and public buildings. In several cases, urgent water removal was required to prevent serious property damage.
There were also power outages: strong winds damaged power lines, leaving some homes without electricity. Emergency crews worked through the night to restore the electricity supply and deal with the aftermath of the storm. Despite the challenging weather conditions, no injuries among the population have been reported, though the extent of damage to infrastructure and private property has yet to be assessed.
The island authorities have urged residents to remain cautious and, if possible, avoid traveling until the storm’s effects are fully eliminated. Weather conditions are expected to stabilize in the coming days, but emergency services continue to operate in heightened mode to minimize risks to the public.
