On Friday afternoon, an incident occurred on one of Barcelona’s most famous streets, Avinguda Diagonal, that drew the attention of locals and tourists alike. A bus belonging to the City Tour company suddenly burst into flames right in front of the iconic Casa de les Punxes building, between Roger de Lluria and Roselló streets.
Passengers and the driver managed to leave the vehicle before the fire spread through the cabin. No medical assistance was needed—everyone escaped with just a fright. Five fire brigades arrived at the scene and quickly started putting out the blaze. The fire was contained before it could spread to nearby cars or buildings.
While firefighters battled the flames, city police blocked traffic on several sections of Diagonal as well as surrounding streets to ensure safety and allow emergency services to work unhindered. This resulted in significant traffic jams, while pedestrians watched from the sidewalks, filming the scene on their phones.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The municipal police have launched an inquiry to determine what triggered the blaze. Authorities have promised to analyze the technical condition of the bus and check for any operational violations. Despite the scale of the incident, however, serious consequences were avoided—no one was injured, and traffic on Diagonal was soon restored.
