One of the largest Zara stores has reopened on Serrano Street in central Madrid. After a three-month renovation, the space has been completely transformed and now spans five floors with a total area of about 2,400 square meters. The store employs 230 staff members and offers collections for women and children, as well as exclusive items.
New format: Zara “apartment”
Alongside the store’s renovation, Inditex has introduced a new concept in the capital — a space called “El apartamento.” This is only the third such project in the world, with previous locations in A Coruña and Paris. In Madrid, the “apartment” is located on the fourth floor and covers 400 square meters. Here, visitors can explore limited-edition series from Zara and Zara Home, as well as collections refreshed weekly. The interior features natural materials, large windows, and soft lighting, creating a cozy atmosphere that highlights the building’s characteristics. The area also includes a café, organized in partnership with local business Balbisiana.
Architectural solutions and design
The renovation project was carried out by the architectural bureau Elsa Urquijo Arquitectos, which had already worked on this site ten years ago. The design incorporates brick walls, reclaimed wood, black metal, ceramics, and clay, along with modern textiles. This approach preserved the building’s historical character while adding contemporary elements. The interior is organized so that customers move from strict, expressive areas on the ground floor to lighter, warmer spaces on the upper levels. Special attention is given to dedicated zones for shoes and accessories, enhancing the individuality of each collection.
Technologies and services for customers
The renovated store features modern solutions for customer convenience. For the first time in the region, automatic return stations and special counters for online orders have been installed. The storage system can handle up to 1,560 parcels at once. There are four payment zones, including accessible checkouts. The store is also equipped with collection points for used packaging and clothing, along with a repair service. Additionally, the Zara Pre-owned online platform operates, where customers can buy or sell branded items.
The reopening of the renovated space coincided with the 50th anniversary of Inditex, which continues to expand its projects in Spain. The new format and modern technologies highlight the brand’s commitment to providing a personalized and comfortable experience for shoppers.
