Dongfeng has landed in Spain with two new SUVs: the all-electric VIGO and the plug-in hybrid MAGE PHEV. Both come loaded with features, long warranties, and prices that could force rivals to rethink their offers.
Dongfeng has jumped into Spain’s SUV market with the VIGO and MAGE PHEV. The pitch is simple: pick your color, and everything else is included. The VIGO, a fully electric SUV, starts at 26,615 euros. The MAGE PHEV, Dongfeng’s first plug-in hybrid for Spain, starts at 28,740 euros. Both come with a seven-year warranty and up to ten years of battery coverage. Dongfeng is taking aim at the big names in the segment.
These prices are not the full sticker price. Leading Spanish automotive outlets confirm that the figures reflect launch deals and government incentives. The official base price for the MAGE PHEV is 31,990 euros, and for the VIGO, 29,990 euros. With discounts and subsidies, buyers pay the lower advertised amounts. Reports from El Diario and Coches.net say Dongfeng’s plan is to beat rivals on price and equipment in the electrified SUV market.
Dongfeng already had a presence in Spain with the electric Box model before launching the VIGO and MAGE PHEV, expanding its local lineup.
The MAGE PHEV is a 4.69-meter SUV built for families. It uses a 1.5-liter turbo petrol engine and an electric motor, together making 220 kW (299 CV). The 17 kWh battery gives up to 89 kilometers of electric-only range (WLTC), and the total range reaches 1,200 kilometers. Fast charging is available: a 22 kW DC charger takes the battery from 30% to 80% in 31 minutes. Inside, there’s a 14.6-inch touchscreen, digital gauges, Apple CarPlay, and driver aids like adaptive cruise control and emergency braking. The boot holds 525 liters, or 1,846 liters with the seats down.
The VIGO is aimed at city drivers. It’s compact at 4.31 meters but has a roomy cabin. The design follows the "Fun Magic Cube" idea, mixing sharp lines with practical features. The split rear tailgate stands out. The top half opens on its own for tight spots. The lower half folds down and can be used as a seat or table, holding up to 150 kg. The VIGO’s boot fits 500 liters, or 1,040 liters with seats folded. There’s also a hidden 72-liter compartment and a 49-liter front trunk. The front seats fold nearly flat, making a two-meter-long space for cargo or rest.
The VIGO runs a 120 kW (163 CV) permanent magnet electric motor on the front wheels. Its LFP battery (51.87 kWh) gives up to 521 kilometers of range in the city and 340 kilometers combined. Charging is quick: at a compatible DC station, the VIGO can go from 30% to 80% in about 18 minutes with its 167 kW charging system. Buyers get 17-inch alloy wheels as standard, with an option for 18-inch. The VIGO is available for 26,615 euros outright or from 139 euros a month with financing.
Dongfeng is rapidly expanding its dealer network in Spain, with 25 locations already operating and plans to reach 30 by the end of 2026 and 45 in 2027. This network growth is part of the brand's broader strategy to become one of the top Chinese automakers in the Spanish market.
On the road, the MAGE PHEV reacts fast to the throttle. Comfort mode softens the ride. Sport mode unlocks the full 292 CV for strong acceleration. The hybrid system uses electric power in the city and switches to petrol on highways. Multilink suspension and electric steering give a stable, comfortable drive. The MAGE is tuned for stability, not for sporty handling.
The VIGO feels refined for its size. The McPherson front suspension and rear torsion bar handle bumps well, especially at the front. In city traffic, the light electric steering is easy to use, though it feels softer at higher speeds. There are three drive modes: Eco, Comfort, and Sport. Sport mode sharpens the throttle. Regenerative braking is smooth, and four-wheel disc brakes give good stopping power. The only ergonomic flaw: the steering wheel adjusts for height but not for reach.
Dongfeng’s move into Spain comes as more Chinese automakers push into Europe. As reported earlier, Chinese hybrid SUVs are already changing what Spanish buyers want. Dongfeng’s pricing and equipment could speed up this trend.
With the VIGO and MAGE PHEV, Dongfeng is cutting out the usual extras and short warranties. Buyers only need to choose the color. This, plus strong specs and clear value, puts Dongfeng in a good spot in Spain’s changing SUV market. If the driving matches the promise on paper, established brands could soon feel real pressure from this newcomer.
