Roig Arena in Valencia has surpassed all forecasts, attracting over 1.7 million visitors in its first year. The venue has quickly become a magnet for major concerts, sports, and corporate events, reshaping the city’s cultural landscape.

In its first year, Valencia’s Roig Arena drew more than 1.7 million visitors, far exceeding expectations and putting the city on the map for major live events in Europe. Backed by Mercadona president Juan Roig and designed by ERRE studio, the arena opened in September 2025 and quickly became a central venue for both music and sports. Data from the Spanish Ministry of Culture shows that the arena’s arrival has boosted cultural tourism, with hotel occupancy in Valencia up 12% during major event weekends.

The arena’s debut event, a Bravo, Nino tribute concert, set the tone for a busy year. Organizers had expected about one million visitors, but the final count was 70% higher, thanks to a packed schedule of 310 events. These included Valencia Basket games, concerts, entertainment shows, and corporate gatherings. According to El País, the arena’s event calendar has helped make Valencia one of Spain’s top five cities for international concert tours in 2025.

In its first year, Roig Arena generated an estimated €120 million in direct economic impact for the local economy, according to a report by the Valencia Chamber of Commerce.

Music has been the main draw. Over 800,000 people attended 125 concerts, with 710,000 in the main hall and another 90,000 in the smaller Sala Auditorio. The €400 million investment, which also funded urban improvements and a new school, has made Valencia a regular stop for major tours. The biggest single concert crowd came for Quevedo, who brought in more than 19,000 fans in October 2025. International acts like Pet Shop Boys, Hans Zimmer, Ed Sheeran, Rod Stewart, 5 Seconds of Summer, Chayanne, André Rieu, Camilo, Laura Pausini, Rawayana, and The Waterboys have all performed at the arena. The LOS40 Music Awards also took place here, with Ed Sheeran and Rosalía among the headliners.

Spanish artists have found a strong stage at Roig Arena as well. Performers such as Manuel Carrasco, Joaquín Sabina, David Bisbal, Aitana, Dani Fernández, Viva Suecia, Fito & Fitipaldis, Mónica Naranjo, Loquillo, Pablo Alborán, Amaia, and Dani Martín—who holds the record for most scheduled shows—have all appeared. The Sala Auditorio has hosted both up-and-coming and established acts, including Rusowsky, La M.O.D.A., Taburete, Celtas Cortos, Delaossa, Roa, Clarent, and international bands like Biffy Clyro, The Psychedelic Furs, The Cat Empire, and Suede. Pollstar reports that Roig Arena’s varied programming has drawn audiences from over 30 countries, building its international reputation.

Demand has been steady. Tickets sold out for 55 concerts, or 44% of all shows, and the arena’s social media following has reached 350,000. Nearly 90 promoters, both Spanish and international, have booked events. More than 90 concerts are already announced for the coming year, with a dozen sold out, and Valencia Basket will continue to play both Liga and EuroLeague matches for its men’s and women’s teams. Corporate events are also growing, with nearly 50 scheduled. The arena’s sponsors include 22 brands, with Pamesa, Heineken, Mapfre, Iberdrola, CaixaBank, and Coca-cola as founding partners.

The Roig Arena project was completed on schedule despite global supply chain disruptions in 2024, a fact noted by several Spanish business publications. The construction phase created over 2,000 temporary jobs and prioritized sustainable building practices, including the use of solar panels and rainwater harvesting systems.

Cinco Días

The arena has received industry recognition as well. Pollstar ranked Roig Arena in the global Top 10 for ticket sales in several months, while Sala Auditorio leads Spain in concert ticket sales. IQ Magazine included Roig Arena in its list of the world’s top 20 live music venues in the first IQ Arena Stars ranking, based on feedback from industry professionals.

Sports have played a major role. Valencia Basket’s move from La Fonteta to Roig Arena brought a new chapter for the club. The men’s team averaged 12,445 spectators per game and set a record with 15,600 fans at a EuroLeague quarterfinal against Panathinaikos. The women’s team also broke its attendance record, drawing 7,647 fans in the Liga final against Casademont Zaragoza. The club’s first season in the new arena included major trophies: the Liga ACB, the Men’s Supercopa, a Final Four appearance in the Men’s EuroLeague, the Women’s Liga, and the Copa de la Reina.

Corporate events have brought in over 40,000 participants. The arena’s two dining spaces—Poble Nou, focused on Valencian cuisine, and Ultramarinos Roig, offering tapas and daily specials—served 36,000 and 34,000 customers respectively in their first year. The venue employs more than 250 permanent staff and up to 700 temporary workers for events.

Roig Arena’s rapid success stands out against the difficulties faced by other regional infrastructure projects, such as those highlighted in recent coverage of Valencia’s weather network. While some public projects struggle to meet demand, Roig Arena has delivered results that few expected, setting a new standard for what private investment and focused management can achieve in Spain’s cultural and sports sectors. The numbers speak for themselves: Roig Arena has changed the city’s entertainment scene and set a higher bar for venues across Europe.
