This phased rollout is due to technical changes in the broadcasting structure: RTVE is currently reorganizing frequencies as part of the introduction of 4K, a process that requires time and preparation.
When to expect it on DTT
According to RTVE’s plans, Arte España is expected to go on air on DTT during 2026. If the deadlines are met, the channel will be available free of charge and in open access before the start of summer. Until then, viewers can follow the channel’s launch on operator packages and on the RTVE Play platform. The specific channel number has not yet been announced, but the sequence of the launch is already defined: first with operators, then with terrestrial broadcasting.
Programming concept
Arte España's broadcast schedule will be built around cultural projects. The channel will feature Spanish films, classical music, opera, theatrical productions, as well as new trends in music. Special attention will be given to archival RTVE materials, including the legendary Estudio 1 episodes and the best examples of national cinema. The RTVE Orchestra and Choir, Radio 3, Radio 3 Extra, and the country's leading opera houses will all take part in content creation. Reasons for the return of the cultural channel
The idea to launch Arte España is largely inspired by the experience of the former Cultura channel, which stopped broadcasting in 2012. RTVE now believes that circumstances have changed and there is renewed demand for a cultural channel. The corporation plans to make Arte España a permanent part of its schedule, not a temporary project. Additionally, RTVE intends to sign an agreement with the Franco-German channel ARTE to adopt the best European practices in cultural broadcasting. How not to miss the launch
While the exact channel number has not been announced, viewers should watch for updates in the Movistar Plus+, Orange TV, DIGI TV, and other operator packages. Movistar, Vodafone, and Orange are likely to carry the channel first. After the official launch, Arte España will also be available on RTVE Play.
