Sevilla has officially signed Jon Guridi, who has agreed to a two-year contract and joins the club as a free agent after four years with Deportivo Alavés. The decision to bring in the midfielder is the first personnel move made by the club’s new sporting director, José Ignacio Navarro, who replaced Antonio Cordón after his departure at the end of May.
Guridi, a native of Gipuzkoa, declined to extend his contract with Alavés despite the club’s offer. He made 148 appearances for the club in Vitoria, scoring 7 goals and providing 8 assists. He played an important role in the team's promotion to La Liga and was a key player during the tenure of current Sevilla coach Luis García Plaza at Alavés. It was on his initiative that the club began negotiations with Guridi.
This transfer is Sevilla’s first official signing of the 2026 pre-season. Previously, Antonio Cordón had arranged the moves of Juan Iglesias, Sanguinet, and Patrick Mercado, but it is Guridi’s signing that marks the new management's first move. According to MARCA, the negotiations concluded in the morning and the official confirmation appeared several hours later.
The coaching and management changes took place against the backdrop of a difficult season: Sevilla avoided relegation only in the penultimate round, finishing just one point ahead of their rivals. Luis García Plaza, who took charge of the team in March, replacing Matías Almeida, has already set the main staffing priorities. Before preseason training begins on July 3, the club needs to settle squad composition issues and fill key positions.
Guridi's contract runs until the summer of 2028, which gives the club stability in midfield. In recent years, Sevilla has been actively refreshing its squad, focusing on players familiar with La Liga's demands.
