The first Flash Charging station with record speed opens in Shenzhen

BYD Launches Ultra-Fast EV Charging Station in China. BYD has introduced its first Flash Charging station in China, where an electric vehicle can be charged up to 70% in just 5 minutes. The new technology promises to transform the experience of EV owners and address the main obstacle — long charging times.

The first BYD Flash Charging station in China has opened in the Pingshan district of Shenzhen. This is more than just another EV charging point: it combines the familiar layout of a classic fueling station with cutting-edge technology, transforming the approach to electric vehicle infrastructure.

The main feature of the station is the record-breaking power output of the chargers: 1,500 kW. If a car is equipped with a Blade Battery 2.0, charging from 10% to 70% takes just 5 minutes, and almost a full charge—9 minutes. Even in temperatures as low as -30°C, the process is only extended by three minutes. This allows EV owners to virtually forget about long waits and makes electric vehicles much more practical for daily use.

The station has seven charging zones, each with two connectors—14 in total. Each terminal can deliver up to 2,100 kW, enabling multiple vehicles to charge simultaneously without power loss. According to BYD’s calculations, one point can serve up to 50 cars per day, and the station as a whole—up to 700.

Engineers have paid attention to the details: the cables are thinner and lighter than usual, equipped with a 'zero gravity' system so they don’t touch the ground and stay clean. This makes them not only more convenient but also safer for users and vehicles.

The connection process is as simple as possible: after the first vehicle registration in the system, charging starts in about five seconds, and payment is processed automatically. This eliminates unnecessary steps and speeds up service.

The station is equipped with a roof covered by solar panels spanning about 1,500 square meters and providing 332.6 kW of power. The generated energy is used for charging vehicles, lighting, and powering the station itself, which reduces the load on city power grids and makes the project more environmentally friendly.

BYD plans to install 220,000 such charging devices in China by the end of 2026 and to enter international markets. All key station components are designed and manufactured in-house, allowing the company to control quality and implement innovations faster than competitors.

The introduction of such stations could be a significant step toward the mass adoption of electric vehicles, especially in megacities where time and convenience are crucial.
