The Diputación de Toledo is rehabilitating the long-abandoned Alamillos del Tránsito building for collaborative housing. Its €1.085m first phase provides 18 homes, with ten more planned for 2027.
Concepción Cedillo and Toledo mayor Carlos Velázquez inspected work on Calle Alamillos del Tránsito. The building had stood unused for decades. The first phase is set to provide 18 homes under a cohousing model.
The Diputación de Toledo has allocated €1.085 million to the rehabilitation, working with the Consorcio de la Ciudad de Toledo. Cedillo said the provincial institution aimed to add ten more homes in 2027, bringing the planned total to 28.
The wider scheme includes parking for residents, as well as a new public square for neighbours. Both are planned as part of the project alongside the housing.
Representatives of the Consorcio de la Ciudad de Toledo joined the visit, along with contractors and technicians overseeing the works. The project is part of Toledo Emerge, a joint initiative by the Diputación and Toledo City Council to find new uses for historic buildings.
This is separate from emergency accommodation. A RUSSPAIN report on a Huelva homelessness refuge covered a facility run by Cáritas. At Alamillos del Tránsito, the stated aim is to recover the heritage site while adding housing and new urban uses.
The Diputación is also pursuing work on other historic properties in Toledo. It is waiting for the Spanish government’s response to a funding request for an initial part of the Palacio de Abdón de Paz. Meanwhile, work is advancing towards a provincial gastronomic centre at San Ildefonso.
The institution is also working to turn San Juan de Dios into an assistance centre with cultural spaces, alongside plans for a new public square. At Alamillos del Tránsito, the first phase remains 18 homes, with ten more targeted for 2027.
