Toyota is marking the Corolla’s 60th anniversary with the Corolla Cross Z Adventure, a special edition available exclusively in Japan. The Corolla nameplate debuted in 1966 and has reached about 57 million vehicles globally over six decades, information from independent coverage. The anniversary edition gives the compact SUV a bolder look, with a dedicated grille and black grille trim that recall the rugged design associated with the Land Cruiser.
The Z Adventure’s most striking feature is its redesigned front end. It departs from standard Corolla Cross styling with a grille similar to the U.S. version. The optional Z Adventure Set replaces the traditional badge with prominent white “TOYOTA” lettering, a nod to the Land Cruiser’s heritage. The commemorative package adds black exterior trim, Metal Stream Metallic lower front and rear bumper garnishes, matte grey metallic 17-inch alloy wheels and anniversary decals. Both versions use 215/60R17 tires. Buyers can choose exclusive paint options, including Urban Khaki, Mud Bath, Platinum White Pearl Mica and Black Mica, all paired with a contrasting black roof.
Inside, the Z Adventure keeps the familiar Corolla Cross layout while adding synthetic leather and fabric upholstery in black and the new Mineral color. Contrasting stitching and Smoke Silver Metallic inserts on the steering wheel, gear lever and selected trim pieces give the cabin a distinct finish.
Toyota has also revised the Japanese Corolla Cross range, which includes S, Z, GR Sport and Z Adventure variants across seven configurations. The update changes equipment on higher grades such as the HEV Z and GR Sport, adding a heated steering wheel as standard and driver-assistance systems such as blind spot monitoring and Safe Exit Assist, which helps prevent door-opening accidents. Other additions include a panoramic camera with a transparent underfloor view and an automatic parking system. The anniversary model is part of a broader range update, not a stand-alone appearance package.
The Japanese-market Corolla Cross retains its self-charging hybrid system based on a 1.8-liter petrol engine. The front-wheel-lead version pairs a 97 hp gasoline engine with a 95 hp electric motor. The E-Four all-wheel-lead variant adds a 41 hp electric motor on the rear axle to improve traction on slippery surfaces. Figures reported under the WLTC test cycle are 26.4 km/l for the 2WD model and 24.6 km/l for E-Four.
Prices for the refreshed Corolla Cross lineup start at 3,613,500 yen, while the GR Sport trim reaches 4,077,700 yen. The Z Adventure is priced at 3,663,000 yen with 2WD and 3,921,500 yen with E-Four; the latter is about 49,500 yen above the standard Z grade. The full Z Adventure Set package brings the total to 4,218,500 yen. These Japanese-market prices place the commemorative model above the standard Z, with separate two-wheel-lead and E-Four options.
The Z Adventure is not expected to be offered outside Japan, though the broader equipment upgrades introduced with this update may inform future Corolla Cross offerings in other markets. In Spain, the Toyota Corolla Cross is currently available from €36,500, with Style and GR Sport trims and two hybrid powertrains: the Hybrid 140, offered only with front-wheel lead, and the more powerful Hybrid 200, available with front- or all-wheel lead.

European Corolla Hatchback and Touring Sports anniversary models have been reported with New Boreal Blue metallic paint, contrasting black roofs, special 17-inch wheels and anniversary trim. They differ from Japan’s Corolla Cross Z Adventure in body style and equipment. Toyota’s approach reflects a broader trend among automakers to bring heritage design cues to contemporary models, as seen in other segments with vehicles such as the GLC 400 EQ 4Matic, which combines luxury, range, and advanced technology.
As the Corolla marks six decades, the Japan-only special edition gives the Corolla Cross a commemorative look alongside a wider domestic range revision. For international buyers, the European anniversary models and market-specific Corolla Cross equipment show how Toyota is adapting the nameplate’s anniversary to regional lineups.
