The capital of Andalusia is abuzz in anticipation of one of the most spectacular social events of 2025. At the center of attention is the wedding of Cayetano Martínez de Irujo, Duke of Arjona, and his chosen bride, Bárbara Mirjan. Reporters are stationed outside Santa Justa Station, eager to be the first to capture the arrival of guests whose names form a veritable mosaic of aristocracy, show business, and sports. The formal ceremony is scheduled to take place at the family’s landmark church, Los Gitanos, after which the celebration will move to the Las Arroyuelas estate, which the Duke inherited from his famous mother, the Duchess of Alba.
The Alba family is expected to have a strong presence at the ceremony, although not everyone will attend—highlighting once again the complex relationships within the clan. Fernando Martínez de Irujo, who has fortunately recovered from recent health issues to the joy of his family, has confirmed his attendance. He will be joined by his sister, Eugenia Martínez de Irujo. Initially, she was expected to be the wedding’s godmother, but this honor was ultimately given to Amina Martínez de Irujo, the groom’s daughter.
The head of the house, the Duke of Alba, will also come to Seville to attend the church service. His brother, Alfonso Martínez de Irujo, has similar plans — both will be present at the ceremony but will skip the banquet. The most notable absentee will be Jacobo Siruela. Together with his wife Inka Martí, he sent a letter of apology. However, his son from his first marriage, Jacobo Fitz-James Stuart, whom the late duchess adored, will attend the event. It is possible that his sister Brianda will join him as well.
Among Cayetano’s closest people at the wedding will be Alfonso Díez, the widower of the Duchess of Alba, who has always been a great support to him. The attendance of Carmen Tello and her husband, the legendary matador Curro Romero, remains uncertain. Their health has recently been poor, but if they feel well enough, they will definitely come. This couple belonged to the late Cayetana’s inner circle and was always there for her son on significant occasions.
The guest list is impressive in its diversity. TV host Susanna Griso has already prepared a commemorative wedding album for the newlyweds. Socialite Carmen Lomana intends to make her first official public appearance with her new companion Antonio Gutiérrez Marset. Singer Bertín Osborne, who recently received the title of Count of Donadio de Casasola, will also be coming to congratulate the couple. The sports world will be represented by former footballer Emilio Butragueño and, to the surprise of many, former boxer Manuel Berdonce. He is Caetano’s coach and could not miss this important event in his protégé’s life, despite a recent back surgery.
On the bride’s side, a large delegation is expected from the Basque Country, where her mother Lourdes Allende is from. Numerous relatives and friends of her father, successful businessman Javier Mirian, will also attend the celebration. Their presence will add to the already colorful roster of guests, making this wedding one of the most talked-about events of the year.
