Mamen Bevia: The Mysterious Wife of Carlos Mazón Who Lives in the Shadow of Politics

First Lady of Valencia: Who Really Is Carlos Mazón's Wife?

The wife of Valencia’s leader leads a private life. She works as a nurse and raises their children. Her family has ties to her husband’s political rivals.

The First Lady of the Valencian Community is a title that María del Carmen Beviá, or simply Mamen to those close to her, holds more in form than in practice. Throughout nearly twenty years of marriage to Carlos Mazón, she has skillfully avoided the spotlight. Her appearances at official events are rare, each one reinforcing her desire to stay in the background, away from cameras and media attention. One such rare occasion was accompanying her husband to a royal reception on Spain’s National Day in 2023. Even then, choosing a modest bottle-green dress, she remained true to herself—elegant yet discreet.

While Mazón’s duties as regional leader keep him in Valencia, his family continues their familiar life in Alicante. Mamen has not left their family home on the Playa de San Juan coast. It is there that their twin children, a boy and a girl on the verge of adulthood, are growing up. The politician himself has often said that being a father is his top priority, a sentiment he regularly demonstrates by sharing family moments on social media, such as their Semana Santa celebrations in Alicante.

Mamen is a native of San Vicente del Raspeig, a small town in the province of Alicante, where she has deep family roots and warm memories. She is about 55 years old and has devoted her life to medicine, working as a nurse in one of Alicante’s hospitals. Her love story with Carlos began back in the 1990s, when the future prominent politician was still far from the heights of power. They met and started dating in her hometown, building their relationship far from the world of political intrigue.

An interesting fact: although her husband is one of the leaders of the Partido Popular, Mamen’s family has socialist roots. Her uncle, José Beviá Pastor, was a prominent PSOE figure and represented the party in the Congress of Deputies for over twenty years. His political career was honored with the Grand Cross of the Order of Civil Merit, which he received in 1996—the very year José María Aznar came to power.

The past year has been a real ordeal for her. In addition to criticism over her husband’s management decisions, she had to contend with a wave of rumors stemming from the tragic events of October 29, 2024. On that fateful day, when the region was hit by catastrophic rains, Carlos Mason spent a long lunch with regional TV journalist Maribel Vilaplana. This sparked a flurry of speculation, fueled by details that the politician escorted his companion all the way to the parking lot. The journalist’s ex-husband even saw fit to publicly announce their divorce, which had occurred seven years earlier. Throughout this media storm, Mamen, as always, maintained absolute silence, showing unwavering composure and her commitment to not interfering in the public sphere.
