MG has unveiled the 07, a large fastback sedan that echoes the style of the Porsche Panamera but undercuts it dramatically on price. The model is available as a plug-in hybrid and as an extended-range electric, with impressive specs and record-breaking demand in China.
MG has shaken up the Chinese automotive market with the debut of the 07, a fastback sedan that borrows its silhouette and proportions from high-end models like the Porsche Panamera, but arrives at a fraction of the price. The 07, now on sale in China, is available as both a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and an extended-range electric vehicle, with the entry-level PHEV starting at just 108,900 yuan—about €13,900.
Interest in the MG 07 was immediate and overwhelming. During the pre-sale phase, MG collected 45,000 reservations within hours, later reaching 59,000 before official orders even opened. Once sales began, the 07 hit 10,000 reservations in under two minutes, easily surpassing the previous record set by the MG4, which took nearly 40 minutes to reach the same milestone.

The car’s dimensions place it firmly in the large sedan category: 4.88 meters long, 1.90 meters wide, and 1.47 meters high, with a wheelbase of 2.825 meters. Its five-door fastback body, frameless doors, semi-hidden handles, and an electrically adjustable rear spoiler all reinforce the premium impression, even if the proportions are less refined than its German inspiration. The design cues are clear, with nods to both the Porsche Panamera and the Porsche Taycan.
Inside, the MG 07 continues to defy expectations for its price bracket. The dashboard is dominated by a 15.6-inch central touchscreen running Inspiration OS on a Qualcomm 8295P processor. High-end features include a 21-speaker sound system, heated and ventilated front seats, a panoramic roof with electrochromic dimming, a zero-gravity passenger seat, and, on top trims, LiDAR-based driver assistance technology.
Under the hood, the PHEV version pairs a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine (110 hp) with a 207 hp electric motor. The battery enables up to 245 km of electric-only driving on the optimistic CLTC cycle, and MG claims a combined range of up to 1,745 km with a full tank and battery. However, this figure is based on the CLTC standard, which tends to be more generous than the WLTP cycle used in Europe, so real-world range will likely be lower.
The fully electric variants also deliver strong numbers. Entry-level versions use a 67 kWh battery and 400-volt architecture, offering 610 to 650 km of CLTC range. The top-range model features a 91 kWh battery and 800-volt system, pushing the claimed range to 845 km and supporting ultra-fast charging up to 5C. Power outputs range from 239 to 320 hp, with torque between 300 and 350 Nm, depending on the configuration. Performance figures have not yet been disclosed.
Pricing remains the most disruptive aspect. The base PHEV is priced at 108,900 yuan (€13,900), while the hybrid with LiDAR costs 118,900 yuan (€15,100). The flagship version tops out at 159,900 yuan (€20,300). This aggressive pricing strategy explains the unprecedented demand at launch.
For now, MG has not confirmed plans to bring the 07 to Europe. If it does arrive, the price is expected to be significantly higher due to taxes and regulations, potentially tripling or quadrupling the Chinese figure. The move reflects a broader trend among Chinese automakers, as seen when Geely raised its export ambitions after acquiring a major stake in Ford España—a shift detailed in this recent analysis.
In summary, the MG 07 stands out as one of the most ambitious and competitively priced sedans in China’s current market. Its combination of premium features, advanced hybrid and electric technology, and disruptive pricing could signal a new phase in the global automotive landscape—if MG decides to take the risk beyond its home market.
