Apple will not change the body thickness in the new iPhone 18 Pro Max: the device will retain the 8.75 mm specification, as in the previous version. This was reported by Weibo insider Ice Universe, noting that this year the company has shifted its focus to developing the foldable iPhone Ultra. The decision to keep the previous dimensions came as a surprise, since the same source had earlier suggested that the model would become thicker due to hardware changes.
Last year, another insider, Instant Digital, claimed that the iPhone 18 Pro Max could become Apple’s heaviest smartphone—its weight would exceed 240 grams. However, maintaining the same thickness does not rule out an increase in weight: internal components may be redesigned, which would affect the overall mass of the device.
According to Digital Chat Station, Apple plans to equip the iPhone 18 Pro Max with a battery capacity of 5100–5200 mAh. This is more than the eSim version of the iPhone 17 Pro Max (5088 mAh). If the information proves accurate, engineers have managed to fit a more powerful battery without increasing the body thickness—likely due to optimized internal layout or the miniaturization of certain elements.
The screen will remain the same—6.9 inches, as in the current model. The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are expected to receive a reduced Dynamic Island, a new C2 modem, simplified camera controls, and a main camera with a variable aperture. The presentation of the new models, including the foldable iPhone Ultra, is expected in mid-September.
