XPeng introduces the L03, a coupe-style SUV designed by JuanMa López, aiming to disrupt the Spanish market with electric and range-extended options. Launching from €35,000, it promises standout features and a unique design.
XPeng has unveiled its most ambitious model yet: the XPeng L03, a coupe-inspired SUV engineered to make a mark in Europe and China simultaneously. The L03 stands out not only for its technical credentials but also for its design pedigree, with Spanish designer JuanMa López—former Ferrari exterior chief—leading its styling. This model is set to arrive in Spain by the end of the year, with a starting price of around €35,000 before incentives.
At a major launch event in Munich, attended by over 1,500 journalists and influencers, XPeng showcased the L03’s dual approach: buyers can choose between a fully electric version or a range-extended variant. The electric models offer power outputs from 245 to 387 hp, paired with either a 58.3 kWh or 71.2 kWh battery. Both battery options support rapid charging, reaching 80% in just 20 minutes, and the larger pack allows for a maximum charging rate of 236 kW.
The range-extended version features a 1.5-litre petrol engine that acts solely as a generator for its 37.25 kWh battery. With a 42-litre fuel tank and electric range combined, XPeng claims the L03 can travel over 1,000 km between stops, making it a practical choice for long-distance drivers.
Design is a central theme for the L03. López’s influence is clear in the SUV’s ‘Vital Flow’ philosophy, with a sloping roofline, rising waist, and a distinctive black C-pillar. Frameless doors and striking front lights—shaped like a half ‘X’ to echo the XPeng logo and illuminated by 400 LEDs—give the L03 a unique presence. At the rear, the taillights evoke the Tesla Model Y from some angles, but the overall silhouette is unmistakably its own.
The Ultra trim, the most exclusive and powerful, is distinguished by 20-inch wheels and yellow brake calipers. All versions feature seats with heating, cooling, and massage functions, but the Ultra adds a 14-point massage system for extra comfort.
XPeng has also prioritized aerodynamics, achieving a class-leading drag coefficient of 0.228. Practicality is addressed with a 367-litre rear boot and a front trunk offering 89 litres in rear-wheel-drive models or 44 litres in all-wheel-drive versions. The L03 measures 4,650 mm long, 1,920 mm wide, and 1,600 mm high, with a generous 2,850 mm wheelbase that translates to a spacious cabin.
Inside, the L03 adopts a minimalist approach. The dashboard is dominated by a 15.6-inch central display, while the instrument cluster is a compact 8.8 inches. Ambient lighting offers 256 color options, and the two-spoke steering wheel features distinctive satellite buttons. There are 37 storage spaces and wireless charging pads for smartphones, but nearly all functions—including climate control—are managed via the touchscreen.
To address usability, XPeng introduces its XOS 6 voice assistant, which responds to ‘Hi XPeng’ and can interpret natural language commands in any language, adjusting settings accordingly. The L03 is also the first Asia-Pacific vehicle to integrate Google Maps Auto SDK, offering a customized navigation experience.
For those comparing the L03 to other electric SUVs, it’s worth noting how XPeng’s approach differs from established brands. For example, while the Mercedes GLC 400 EQ 4Matic emphasizes luxury and long-range comfort, as explored in our recent look at Mercedes’ electric SUV, the L03 aims to combine design flair, advanced tech, and affordability in a single package.
Market Arrival and Pricing
The L03 will debut in Spain at the end of 2026, starting with the range-extended version at approximately €40,000. The fully electric model is expected in early 2027, priced from €35,000—both figures before discounts or government incentives.
Context and Outlook
XPeng’s decision to launch the L03 in Europe and China at the same time signals a new phase for Chinese automakers, who are increasingly targeting Western markets with models tailored to local tastes. The involvement of a Spanish designer and the focus on both technology and comfort suggest XPeng is serious about competing with established European brands. As the electric SUV segment grows more crowded, the L03’s blend of design, range, and price could make it a compelling option for Spanish buyers seeking something different from the usual choices.
