Andalusia to See Dry May Holidays: Exceptions and Temperature Fluctuations

Rain threatens the eastern region; elsewhere, no storm alerts

Andalusia is expected to have mostly dry weather during the May holidays. Rain and thunderstorms are possible only in parts of Almería and Granada. Temperatures will shift mid-week.

The authorities of Andalusia forecast predominantly dry and calm weather for the May holidays. According to the Agencia Estatal de Meteorología (Aemet), rainfall and thunderstorms are unlikely in most provinces, except for some areas of Almería and Granada. In these zones, there remains a risk of short showers on Thursday and Friday, but by the weekend meteorologists expect the situation to stabilize.

As noted by Europa Press, citing the Aemet delegate in Andalusia Juan de Dios del Pino, on the eve of the holidays, Tuesday and Wednesday, the region may see local thunderstorms and brief downpours. This is especially true for the Cuenca del Genil area in Granada and the Capital and Monte de Jaén area, where yellow warnings have been issued due to the likelihood of up to 15 liters of rainfall per square meter in an hour.

Starting Thursday, the weather situation will begin to change: instability will persist only in eastern Andalusia, where isolated short-term showers are possible. No significant rainfall is expected in the other provinces, and the chance of storms by the weekend will almost disappear. At the same time, according to meteorologists, strong winds on Tuesday will affect only the coastal areas of Cádiz and the Strait of Gibraltar, after which weather conditions are expected to stabilize.

The temperature background will also change throughout the week. Maximum values will drop on Wednesday and Thursday due to a passing front, but will begin to rise again by the weekend. Minimum temperatures will fall on Thursday and Friday, but are expected to return to higher-than-usual levels for this time of year during the holiday period.

The weather dynamics in Andalusia contrast with the recent sharp climate changes in other regions of the country, when April brought snow and a cold snap. This was covered in detail in the article on the impact of the strong front in Spain — details on the cold snap and snowfall.
